Brexit the economy and house prices part 6

All you Brexit dissidents had the chance to vote them into power on their anti-Brexit ticket, and you all *bottled* it.
Sometimes it's a matter of the lesser of two evils.
The only realistic choice I had was either a Tory party whose leader seeked a mandate for a hard brexit.
Or a Labour party that waffled on about a 'jobs first Brexit', whatever that might be.
The latter seemed to be the better option. Not because I particularly like the Labour party, its leader or many of its policies.
So I voted Labour. Looks like many others did the same, as my constituency changed Con to Lab.
Didn't bottle a thing.0 -
Can you imagine if all MPs would have backed the government and honoured the referendum how much stronger as a country our negotiating position would have been.
No.
Unanimous MP backing wouldn't have changed our economic and geopolitical position of weakness in these negotiations.
Where do you get these ideas from?0 -
From the BBC yesterday:

Interesting to see that all the leavers who thought Obama shouldn’t have an opinion on Brexit are very quiet about Putin supporting leave...0 -

It was your choice to consciously vote for a Brexit-focused party though.
I assume you had a LibDem candidate. They stood in most areas. At least they were honest on their Brexit position. I can't complain about that.
Corbyn, for me, tried to bribe the voters with the tuition offering.
I found it a distraction and disingenuous. It wasn't a time to concentrate on relatively minor matters. Tories were no better. It really wasn't the time to address social care issues.0 -
I do apologies if you believe I've stated that you're not allowed an opinion, I admit I completely disagree with your opinion but never would I say you're not allowed to express it...
Do you believe as I do that because most MPs hugely regret the outcome of the referendum and although they reluctantly helped trigger A50 for the most they've done everything possible to scupper the Government. The SNP and LDs have flatly refused to accept the result. Most Labour MPs are doing everything possible to reverse the result along with a handful of Tories.
Can you imagine if all MPs would have backed the government and honoured the referendum how much stronger as a country our negotiating position would have been.. The EU have completely walked all over our negotiator's because they have exploited the massive divisions in our parliament...
While there is some truth in what you say - there should have been a lot more unity to strengthen our position
But you say "back the government" but the government itself is completely split! And it isn't just remainers, its leavers too!0 -

But the choice is similar to asking you which of your children would you like me to burn and then considering you responsible for the result !0 -

Putin is saying respect how the people voted, Obama was just a mouthpiece for Project Fear, and probably managed to push quite a lot to vote Leave because of his condescending arrogance (Blair has exactly the same effect it seems) What is Obama`s view on whether we should respect the outcome of a democratic vote, or keep whining because it didn`t go our way, do you have a link?0 -

Obama shouted his mouth off before the referendum,Putin is right we've voted leave and we should be getting on with it.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0 -
Today, apart from some politically and economically insignificant countries (and Switzerland, which has a bespoke deal), everyone in Europe is in the EU.
Nothing is stopping UK to take a leadership role and create an alternative to EU.
It will take time and there will be teething problems at start but we need to start somehow.
Then UK can influence the new-EU in same way Germany is doing for the current-EU.leave supporters are a minority in Parliament.
Yes, stats were published in newspapers earlier which said MPs are 75:25 in favour of EU where as referendum result was 48:52.
This proves parliament does not represent people.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -

It doesn't mirror the electorate, but why is that, what can be done to alleviate that?
Almost 9 out of 10 MP have a degree, so they are very much brighter than Joe Public.
Would an MP be better placed than Joe Public at making important decisions on our behalf, I think so.0
