Almost 9 out of 10 MP have a degree, so they are very much brighter than Joe Public.
Representative democracy is not working. It is better to Swiss style decision making process via more referendums.
MPs should just execute what people want. They should not try to dictate the public.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -

Many people with high IQs have little common sense and a poor understanding of what life is all about.
Obtaining a degree isn't difficult for anyone with an average IQ.0 -
Brexit may have worked ok if it wasn't precipitated so quickly by May invoking A50 just like that.
That invocation was just a knee jerk reaction to the ERG, but anyway it is what it is now, but could have been handled a lot more diplomatically.
But UK hubris rules I suppose, and to heck with everyone else affected.
Am very sorry to see this mess, not because of leaving, but as a result of the WAY we have decided to leave. Such arrogance will result in the Emperor's new Clothes I think. And I doubt it will all be ok either.0 -

Neither Isaac Newton and Galileo Galilei held degrees.
Neither Michael Dell or Steve Jobs even completed college.........0 -
Nothing is stopping UK to take a leadership role and create an alternative to EU.
It will take time and there will be teething problems at start but we need to start somehow.
Then UK can influence the new-EU in same way Germany is doing for the current-EU.
Yes, stats were published in newspapers earlier which said MPs are 75:25 in favour of EU where as referendum result was 48:52.
This proves parliament does not represent people.
Although others characterise me as a "Remainer" my view is that there are many forms of Brexit and neither No Deal/WTO or May's deal are better than Remaining. That said I accept that the EU is not perfect and there may be way of leaving that are better than remain.
If we have to leave I have always thought EFTA was the best option. Joining EFTA could help the re-alignment of the EU from its present form that seeks more political integration. It would enable those who value valued independent nations in a strong and cooperative trading arrangement that could still coexist in the EEA. It could also lead to other nations moving to EFTA and enhancing its bargaining power.
Instead we have frittered time away following the impossible dreams of the ERG and its refusal to see the damage that it will cause.
Re Parliament, you seem to misunderstand the concept of a representative democracy, what you describe is a Parliament where delegates are dispatched to follow their party's mandate.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

Funny that when Trade Unions make decisions based on delegate conferences they are accused of being unrepresentative of their members.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Anyone who crosses the open border heading into NI. This all started with people wanting to control our borders....Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0
