  • I came out of Uni in 2008....got a job, saved my sausage off.....10 years later I have saved £100,000....the average 2 bed houses around where I live have gone up £100,000 in this time.....

I am in no better position to buy around here now as I was 10 years ago, after saving £100,000 !!!!!!!!. It's deflating.

    What now....move to Bradford?

    Gamble in stocks?

    Move to Spain?

Pray for Brexit to reset house prices to more affordable levels?

Brexit resetting house prices won't help you as it'll really hurt mortgage availability too. Unless you can buy outright with cash.
What makes you think that what's been posted is true?
Because it sounds pretty credible. Lots of companies contingencies for a no deal Brexit will involve reducing staff.
I'm sure it's been said before that any company not planning for no deal Brexit from the moment the referendum result was known was foolish to the point of negligence.
We've gone from planning to the government recommending companies start enacting their contingency plans. Stockpiling stuff makes sense if you're only importing, but if you're exporting too and expecting business to suffer, then costs will need to be cut.

Some other companies contingency plans will involve moving business units over to the EU to get back into the single market.

The only guarantee when it comes to no-deal brexit contingency planning is that jobs will be lost.
  • Yeah, will be able to buy outright or at least close to outright. So let's crash and burn!

The option to move to Spain after Brexit will become more difficult. As a third country National you will have to have an Income above a certain level. Unless you are highly skilled the present level is above the salary offered by many jobs. (Just like Britains present income level for 3rd country national wanting to come to the UK) Extra news about the new clampdown is due today Wednesday.

    What’s wrong with Bradford?
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

I am still confident that May will get her withdrawal/transition/political understanding deal through the Commons.
It will be later than I originally thought but she is playing a very dangerous but skilful game.

It is regrettable that business leaders did not make more noise during the last two years but share prices, reputation and just plain greed kept them quiet and who can blame them. Their contingency plans do not involve them losing their jobs.

You are deluded if you think that business leaders have not been preparing for this since the vote. It's known as risk management and major shareholders like the big pension funds have been on their backs about it for more than two years. Just because you personally may not be aware of it doesn't mean that it isn’t happening.

Why on earth would you need to save £100k for a deposit on your first house?

Saving that amount in cash is pretty much guaranteed to be eroded in inflation over 10 years.

Where in the country are you trying to buy???

Sky Ticker running a couple of interesting headlines out of the EU preparations for a no deal Brexit. 14 measures, including:

Agree to let trucks cross borders until end of2019 providing UK agreement to same.
Pet Passports held by UK citizens resident in the UK will cease to be valid as of 29th March.
Rail Operator permit for UK cos in Europe will cease 29th March.

Gfplux, hopefully you will see the comment about protecting the right of British citizens residing in the UK reassuring.
