I have no problem with Schengen, a common EU defence force, or the euro (joining at a favourable rate). But then I don't see 1970 and Enoch Powell every time I look out of my window.

You think an EU army as espoused by Macron would be a defensive only force? ie. not used in a potentially offensive capacity to protect EU interests?

The EU army would still be approved by the EU27 - it's not a private militia for the EU buildings in Brussels - they'd be used in exactly the same situations as the EU's individual or NATO armies are deployed, but controlled and supplied in a more efficient manner.

The EU27 are actually ROI. That is the EU for you! All for one, and one for all.

UK will have nothing after leaving. It is just so bizarre.

Like the EEC was just an economic club you mean?

Presumably, you've never heard of function creep.

Works fine now. Trump and Putin want UK to leave, another conquest!

Come back to us with a report after leaving.

Britain is an island state. NI is cut off from that, but has many connections, mostly good with ROI. The DUP are loopers wanting the worst for everyone in the name of the glorious Union, that honestly no one really cares about, they just get on with their lives.

Out of sight out of mind.Pay a trip to Belfast then. Or other places where peace walls still exist to this day. ;)

Oh believe my I have done this. Easy trip to Belfast and it is an other worldly place no matter what anyone thinks. But it is good, and surviving well, thanks to the GFA.

Nothing to do with Brexit though. That might make a difference to people's lives in NI. How will the billions or millions given sustain them after Brexit if there is nothing left? Or the axing of the Border issue re GFA?

They know this. Is it worth it? NO in my opinion. But many UK people think NI is not part of the UK at all and care less about it.

Hence my earlier comment "out of sight out of mind".

It's not going to have any more function creep than separate armies or NATO would, so I'm not sure it's worth worrying about.

I'd be a lot more worried about how we finance our own military since trump is making a lot of noise about everyone meeting the 2% NATO target and we've been defunding the armed forces even before any potential reduction in the economy.

We do make 2% contribution. Unlike France among others.

As for function creep for the EU army, it has already crept massively since before the referendum it was not going to happen according to remain.
