Brexit the economy and house prices part 6

What a thoroughly bizarre statement.
The government was officially pro-Remain and used the civil service and public funds to promote a Remain result.
The "Britain Stronger in Europe" campaign was run via donations, £300k of which came from the Tories, and was in lockstep with government policy on Europe.

The referendum was an exercise in giving a lot of people who shouldn't have been asked, a question on something about which they knew very little, in the hope it would resolve factional infighting in the Tory party.
Asking the public to decide complicated foreign policy via a plebiscite makes as much sense as asking them to decide policy on gene mapping.
No,the referendum was basically the result of increasing discontent following there being no vote in the UK on the Maastricht Treaty which created the EU.
Remember UKIP and their current 17 MEP's.
Cameron had been facing increasing pressure since he rejected calls for a referendum in 2012 and gave a promise to hold a referendum if the Tories won in 2015.
As we know, they won so Dave decided to go on a jolly around Europe asking if the EU would consider some renegotiation for the UK.
When they refused he kept his promise and held the referendum.
You really shouldn't let your hatred of Brexit cloud your opinions quite so much because in effect, Brexit is the fault of the EU!
After all, if they had listened to Dave we would not have had a referendum ........ and there wouldn't have been the proliferation of Populism across EU countries that continues to gather pace to this day.0 -

Brexit looks a lot different to what it did when that vote was carried out, both in terms of the publics opinion (it's now further against) as well as the damage (it's going to be worse than predicted). When the facts change, peoples views change.
I'm personally glad that we have MP's who can change their mind when the situation warrants it, however un-British that is.0 -
There is no evidence that there is a swing to remain. My complaint is that if these MPs are convinced that leaving customs union and free market will be a absolute disaster and we can't be in either without accepting 4 freedoms they should not have voted for a referendum let alone to trigger article 50.
The unrest would have simply magnified in some quarters. Doing nothing is the EU's stock get out. Trouble is boomerangs keep coming back.0 -

I suppose the one thing the Referendum has done is to show just how many MPs lie, I'm getting really peed off with MPs saying I respect the result of referendum then going on to show they don't.I am a mortgage broker. These are the kind of people who we should be asking to decide on complicated foreign policy.
