The usual xenophobia...... No surprise there!
The usual refusal of remainers to accept just who is xenophobic ..... no surprise there!
Who is suggesting that UK licences won't be valid (despite them being valid before joining)? the EU.
Who is suggesting flights won't be allowed from UK airlines (despite them doing so before joining)? The EU.
Lots more examples if you want 'em.
Looks to me pretty much like the EU being xenophobic towards the British.0 -

Bad British drivers: why we're a nightmare on the roads in Europe

Britons abroad 'are the worst drivers in Europe'

Maybe the solution here, for both Brits-in-Europe and Europeans-in-Britain is for us to join more or less the rest of the world and drive on the right. It'd cut out the worst of the problems, make it easer to import cars, reduce manufacturing costs, and so on. Some other country (I can't remember which one) managed to change sides without any real issues, so I'm sure it's something we could do. Great British Pluck and all that, pip pip.0 -

I'm... I'm not sure that's how it works.
Lets simplify things a bit; there are rules based on whether or not you are in a circle painted on the ground, right?
So you know the rules in advance, whatever they are. You step outside the circle so thus the rules no longer apply, right?
So why the surprise that none of the rules apply?
The UK has chosen (rightly or wrongly) to become a 3rd country. That means we are treated exactly as a 3rd country with the exception of where we explicitly negotiate otherwise. So to see how the EU will treat us in a no-deal, have a look at how things work with Morocco or Tunisia.0 -

Is there some reason that you can not accept that the EU are trying to suggest that they can stop the UK from doing things which it was able to do freely before we joined the Common Market/EU?
Without the pointless analogies if possible.0 -
Typical remainer myopia to the fact that there are huge numbers of foreign registered vehicles on British roads which are unsafe, uninsured and driven by unlicensed people who often ignore legal hours for driving. If you have ever visited eastern European countries, you will know all about the dangerous manoeuvres frequently exercised by HGV drivers. It's not xenophobic to point out facts.
Simply repeating the trope doesn't change the prejudice. Due to the nature of my job I see the same infractions in this country carried out by white British males.0 -

So you *probably* wouldn't need one for the EU, depending on how things go, but UK cars would be more likely to be stopped on the continent for checks of things like insurance, emergency kits, or anything else we'd legally deviate on, and that'd likely also include the IDP. It's an easy fine for the French Police who seem to already pick on UK drivers.0
-
But the French "picking on" UK drivers is not "xenophobic"?
Absolutely. But we're not in a position to do anything about that other than give them less ammunition.
Though to be fair, they likely stop tourists because there's a much higher risk of them doing something illegal (lack of proper insurance, lack of breathalizers, etc), rather than just a dislike for the English.0 -

Yup. Things have changed drastically across all landscapes since we joined the Common Market 40 years ago. The rules have changed (usually for the stricter, and we've usually agreed with it).
Do you honestly expect anything to work the same way it did 40 years ago? Your local bank or coal merchants?0 -
I’ve heard the post office queues in Tunisia are horrific.0
