Absolutely desperate aren't they. How shameful and doesn't augur well for our future!

'Conservative MEPs have given their support to the authoritarian government of Viktor Orban in a crunch vote in the European Parliament.
Almost all of the politicians representing Theresa May’s party voted against a motion to censure the Hungarian leader, which in the end was overwhelmingly passed.
Their support for the right-wing leader – accused of violating press freedoms, undermining judicial independence and waging an antisemitic campaign against a leading Jewish businessman – was attacked by Ms May’s critics in the UK.'
Far right UK party supporting far right Hungarian party. No surprises there.

In political parlance 'far right' has a certain baggage, its important we use it correctly.
    I just did. :)
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

"European Research Group reveals plan for customs checks away from border"

"Trusted traders with non-agrifood loads assessed not to be a smuggling risk would pass through the green channel unchecked provided customs declarations forms, which can be completely electronically, were submitted in advance."

That sounds like a combination of "turbo customs fraud" and "no border in name only".

I guess Reese Mogg has no concept of trustworthiness, he probably even thinks he is trustworthy himself. Someone ought to sit him down and carefully explain to him that he's not, it might require pictures to be drawn.

    Touche! :)
Highly dubious behaviour by the Tories in the EU Parliament I grant you, but it still doesn’t make the Tories far right.
They voted in support of a far right Government BTW, not just a far right party. A late attempt to divide and conquer the EU27 to aid the U.K. in the Brexit negotiations perhaps?
I caught part of Juncker’s state of the union speech this morning, it struck me what a collection of fruitcakes inhabit that particular chamber. Glad we’re leaving that nuthouse.

    Their vote...up to them.

Don't like it? Vote them out. (If you can be bothered)

    Sheesh.

Leave this sort of twaddle to the gossip pages of Hello magazine.

I'm not interested in BoJo's hair; Mays' kitten heels; scruffy Corbyn; flustered Abbot. I judge on results alone, and if they don't deliver feel free to hound them on that.

Well the result so far is they conned 52% of people to vote for something vague and unattainable, but they seem to be getting a free ride on that.

The European Research Group has been tax payer funded through MP's expenses for years and yet they don't have any idea about how to leave the EU. It's just a personal grudge on Reese Moggs part, because his dad lost against John Major.

Unless you mean wait until after brexit, in which case it will be too late to hound them on it.

I think that depends on what side of the xenophobia fence you sit.

You could say the same about the Hungarian government which won 70 per cent of the seats and nearly 50% of the vote at this year's Hungarian general election and remains allied with Juncker and Merkel's Christian Democrat group.

Isn't it up to the people of Hungary to decide their future via their general elections - not Brussels or indeed MEPs elected on tiny turn outs on party list systems. Whether we like it or not most Hungarians seem happy with their government - the second ranked party which got 20% makes Orban seem like the Lib Dems.

The EU has been playing whack-a-mole with industrial scale cross border VAT fraud and subsidy fraud schemes forever. Schemes that rely on weird and wonderful EU trade-bending rules to exploit. The Balkan and Mediterranean members providing the biggest challenges. To mistrust a relatively rule-following UK is 'a bit rich'.
  • Always tickles me when someone like the eu drops plans to release a report on anti-corruption efforts.

And then of course there was the previous one released where they dropped the chapter on corruption within the eu institutions.

Makes you wonder how much they got paid ……………...

There's a difference between using dodgy accounting to avoid VAT or other taxes, to smuggling goods across a border. Sure it's likely done to avoid VAT or price differentials, but it can also be because the goods (or people) aren't legally allowed to cross the border.

Get approved status to cross the border, and you've got a free pass to smuggle anything (or one) across that you want, as long as you don't get caught and have it revoked. To satisfy the GFA, approved status should be given to pretty much every resident with minimum scrutiny.

It just seems like a bizarre choice since Brexit was all about controlling our borders.
