  • I'm very slow with chores, as it is very, very close here. The weather is undecided whether to have a cracking thunder storm or brighten up but it is also draining.

I'm not sure if it's countrywide or if you're near me but it's the same here

    Evening all :)
Really, really hot here too, makes it hard to sleep and get motivated to do anything :o The hottest part of the day seems to be late afternoon / early evening, it is just starting to cool down a bit now, but it is nearly 9o'clock. No sign of any possibility of rain in the forecast, for the foreseeable future

Small things today (very small list as DD and kids have been here nearly all day):
    HG blueberries for breakfast :)
Free samples of marmite in post this morning :)
Fed everyone with food I already had in

Load of washing done and on line to dry
Small shop, made bigger by OH's blimmin beer
Posted an ebay parcel while out :)
And got rid of a lot of paper recycling in the supermarket recycling bins :)

Checked banks and updated spreadsheet - we switched banks very recently, and that all seems to be going ok :)
HG carrots, potatoes and French beans for dinner, with more of the huge pie I made yesterday :)
Emptied out another couple of garden pots - my garden is small, and I grow lots of veg in containers. However, I have decided not to replant / resow them as they become empty until the weather breaks, as the watering is so much work. Normally I have them filled up for most of the year :(
Fed the tomatoes and beans, minimal watering tonight as I did a thorough job last night :)
Made pesto with lots of lovely HG basil :)
Sorted some items for sales unit tomorrow

    Soon be time for bed!
Hope your arm gets better soon HK :(

List a couple of items on selling pages
Make a list of uniform I need to get for smalls for September, not much but want to be clear on it, so I can look out for offers

    Morning folks

Bit of sleep last night but I'll need a good lie in on Thursday!

    Today's things:
    • B/L/D from stores
    • OH to clean house thoroughly d/t parental visit at the weekend
    • Charge phone in work
    • Gym at lunchtime
    • Possibly some overtime
    • Look at letter OH got about potentially being in a clinical trial. Could be worth finding out more info.
    Have a good one all

    Morning all :)
Going away tomorrow for a few days (directly after I have been to the dentist ) so today is all about getting ready / making sure no food is going to go to waste while we are away.

    So far:
    Mended OH's trousers
    Checked banks
    Stopped milk delivery online
    Did some postal survey stuff
    All done :)

    Still to do:
Take stuff to sales unit, tidy up, restock Done, sold a stool that OH was going to cut up for firewood immediately I took it in - only a few pounds, but better than nothing!
    Ironing  Done :T
Some housework :(Done - made OH help!
Read meters and entered readings on energy company's web site

Water garden thoroughly, neighbour is going to splash some water about while we are away Front garden done. About to do back!
Someone coming about a facebook sale item this afternoon She bought it :)
Triage fridge - pesto made yesterday and chicken stock made the day before needs to be frozen as it won't get used and we won't be taking it with us. There may well be other items! Stock frozen, will do pesto in the morning as I am firstly going to put some in the sandwiches I make to take with us. Spreading pesto on a boring tomato, cheese and cucumber sandwich elevates it to a new level! Peeled, cut up and soaked in lemon juice wrinkly apples, prior to freezing - they will do for an apple cake when we get back :) Juiced remaining satsumas plus one orange, which weren't going to get eaten. Froze juice for now.

Complete list of stuff still to load up
Food from home, no spends planned for today Finished off the huge chicken, ham and tarragon pie I made on Sunday for dinner, with salad from garden :)

Put spare room back together after GD was playing in there yesterday - little monkey managed to shut the two of us in the eaves cupboard, and her mum and OH had gone out  She was playing house in there, and I took the opportunity to look over some of my sales stock that is stored in there. Didn't see her shut the door :eek:Managed to get the door open somehow! OH now has the job of ensuring the cupboard can be easily opened from the inside!

    Back later to update :)

    Hi July-Penny-Jailers,

Wee day out with DW today. A hike around a country estate that has a wee "zoo" where, for £1.45, you can see 50 random species of creature. DW will love it.

    Morning all :hello:
    Happy Birthday Ziggy.
Dawn, hope you have a fab few days away.
Sorry to hear so many of you are struggling with sleep at the moment. I'm lucky in that it's a little bit cooler up here but it's still quite uncomfortable as far as I'm concerned. I sleep much better when I don't have to get up for work the next day. :rotfl:
No real plans here today - I've been up for a couple of hours watching DVD's with the kids (they love Greatest Showman). I've updated my budget, and started crocheting some facecloths (for us for once).
Going out later to take bestie to pick her car up as it's been getting some work done on it and ds has his friend staying over tonight.
Not sure what 'annoying jobs' to tackle today, if any. I'll have another cuppa and relax a bit first.

    Hello! :)

I posted on last weeks thread and stated I would join in here from now on. I'll try to post on a daily basis but we will see.

A bit of a background. It's just me and the boy and we live with my mum. We also have a lodger Monday to Friday. I'm not currently in any debt apart from a credit card that's paid off in full each month but I'm always looking at ways to save money here and there. We have a lot of upcoming events so I need to be as MSE as possible. I currently have a diary on the 'How much have you saved?" forum which I post daily on and I also have a DFW diary which I occasionally post on and update from time to time- I used this more often when I did have debt which was paying off my car. That's now all paid off.

I'm quite sensible with money and try to save as much as possible so we can do nice things. I do have a help to buy isa which I save the maximum into each month and I just let that tick along and will do until I decide I want to move out. It does not make sense for me to at the moment as it would cost more for me in the long run, plus my mum has the space for us to live in. If my circumstances change in the future I will have the funds for this. At the moment I'm just focusing on saving what I can, some of which is for travelling in the future.

Next year I hope to take the boy travelling around Europe for a few weeks and also have a couple other places I'd like to visit. One of my friends and I have decided we would like to go Amsterdam earlier on next year and then later on in the year myself and another friend would like to go New York. So I have a lot to save up for. I've set out budgets for each one and will be saving for these from October onwards.

Our upcoming holidays include a weekend away for the boys birthday to Mablethorpe mid August. Then at the end of August we are away to Cornwall for a week with his grandparents and then two weeks from that we are going on a Caribbean cruise for two weeks. I have already budgeted and saved for the first two trips and over the next month or two, I'll direct most of my savings to the cruise fund. I don't want to get into debt for these trips but I have a 0% purchases card just in case there are any expected expenses. I have overestimated my budgets for each one to hopefully cover all areas and maybe I might actually have left over savings at the end of it all.

I also would like to purchase myself a bike so I can cut down on my car usage. It's only a four mile journey each way to work and I can also go on bike rides with the boy. I'll look into this over the next couple of weeks. I want to try and keep petrol cost/usage down for short journeys and use it more for days out/travelling to the countryside for walks etc.

I'm currently off work at the moment and have been since mid June. This is due to me having a relapse regarding my mental health. I have bipolar disorder and ADHD and although it's usually well managed, I slowly slipped into a depression and finally admitted defeat. Work usually distracted me but it no longer did and I was just having emotional breakdowns at work which was not good. I'm a nurse and I'm good at my job and what I do. I actually miss being there but I'm looking at returning mid August. I have a few more upcoming appointments and then that should be it.

Anyway that's a bit about me and the boy and what we have upcoming.

I look forward to posting and joining you guys!

I have a couple of things I'd like to do today so I'll post a few of them and hopefully get them all done.
    Today's to do list.

    - Make smoothies using up fruit that has gone soft.
(We have a couple of bananas left and other fruit so will use up as much as we possibly can. I may make some banana bread/loaf that my mum can take into work to use up some of these).

    - Check out what food we have in our freezers and make a meal plan for the week from that. (We currently have three freezers in the house which are pretty full. I'd like to organise these and hopefully defrost each one over the next few days and rearrange so I know what is what. I will do a basic meal plan based on what we have).

    - Go food shopping. (Once I know what we have, I will make a shopping list. To be honest we are pretty much well stocked and only need a few basic items so this should not mount to too much and I should come well under budget. I set a £50 limit for each week and have started to do my shopping on a Tuesday ready for the week ahead. This week I'm going to split the shops between Iceland and Aldi. Apparently until the end of the month, if you work within the NHS you can get 10% off your shopping at Iceland). I'll use iceland to buy any frozen items we need and Aldi for anything fresh).

-- Chop up leftover mushrooms and freeze. (If I do this it saves them going to waste and I can use them in future recipes).

    - Use up some chicken for dinner. (The plan is to have Spanish chicken with mashed potato tonight).

    - Go to the gym. (I've just recently found my motivation to go again. I was doing really well a few months back and lost some weight which I felt great for. I fell off the bandwagon as life got in the way. I'm looking forward to getting back into this).

    - Go for a walk with the boy and my friend. (My friend is picking us up and we will be going to another town close to us for a walk and catch up. The boy may take his scooter so that will keep him occupied and get him some fresh air and exercise. It's also free).

    - Check online banking. (I will do this and round up the accounts. I have several different accounts to use for different budgets each month, a bit like piggy banking or the envelope system except it is online. This way works well for me and I'm able to see what is left each day/week/month).

    - Write up a budget for next month. (I finally know my final expected income this month. This varies on a monthly basis but I always budget for the month ahead i.e. July's income goes towards the August).

That's pretty much it for the day and should keep me busy. I'm hoping for today to be a NSD. I know I'm going shopping later on but that is budgeted for and the funds are already there so I'm not counting that. I mean any unexpected spends that I haven't already planned out e.g. a drink when we go out.

I'll update later with my progress :D
