What small DFW things will you do w/c 23rd July?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

    Hi July-Penny-Jailers,

Going for a second wee cycle today on Bike & Go bike. Hired it for 24 hours starting at lunchtime so I could cycle once yesterday and once today on a one-day hire charge!

Ally - thanks for starting us off!

    ziggy - we cross-posted - I'm sorry you had a rough night

Week has started a bit fubar... OH was gigging last night and there must have been some issue with the power supply as all the equipment fried.

So today OH will be driving to a slightly far away town to take his amp to the chap to see if it can be fixed.

    I've had 5 hours sleep :(

MSE things... not sure if there will be any!
    • B/D from stores in some way
    • Charge phone in work
    • Add all stuff to expenses
    • Get some sleep!
    Have a good one all

    Morning Monday Pence-handlers,
I'm tired this morning too, Ziggy. Am throwing myself into my job list to see if I liven up.....tho have already stopped for coffee!
*Free fitness today: Brisk walk to post box, vacuum upstairs, wash down external doors, sweep courtyard & de-weed pond. Postbox, vacuuming & 2 doors already done
*Pick more rocket, tomatoes, spring onions, basil, peppers & probably an aubergine.
*Triage of fridge. Am making fajhitas tonight using l/o wraps I froze last time & a tub of the refried beans I batch cooked recently in the slow cooker. Will round up any use-it-up veg to add
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

Sorry.....a critter crawled up my leg & I pressed enter by accident..
    *......cont....it to spicy veg mix.
*Make up more fajhita spice mix as jar almost empty.
    *Bake sourdough loaf....it's proving atm.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Pick climbing beans, blanch & freeze.
*Overnight laundry done on cheap tariff & pegged out in sunshine.
*Bathroom curtains now in washer. May as well get big household items laundered while we are able to dry them quickly for free.
*Update grocery budget & do banking.
*Bail out this morning's bath water to use on garden.
*Water veg & feed with free liquid plant food from worm composter.
    *Knit (presents box).
*Free entertainment - have challenged mr f to a fitbit step count challenge this week. We did one over the weekend. He won, but not by as much as he thought he would! My daily step target is only 7000 steps but I did over 10,000 on Sat & over 12,000 yesterday. I lost 4lbs last week so felt extra-motivated!
Ok, must crack on with washing down that final door & will then hopefully also manage that pondy job before lunch.
    Have a good week all,
    F xx

    Morning all (just about) :coffee:
Sorry to hear that everyone is struggling with sleep at the moment. I can empathise with you all, although I am going to confess that I actually slept quite well last night. It's a rare occurrence for me, so I am making the most of it.
I have been busy this morning - I've been to see my mortgage advisor at the bank, and she is hopeful that the mortgage will be sorted within a couple of weeks. I really hope so. She is meeting ex on Wednesday to confirm that he is happy for me to take him off the mortgage, the application is done and in so just waiting for that, plus the valuation. Please keep fingers crossed.
I am starting to fall in love with YNAB - I couldn't get along with it when I first started but this time round it seems to be really working for me. Famous last words, but I am hopeful. :D
Also have sorted out dd's online banking so she is good to go with a real bank account with a debit card and everything. And posted some parcels that were waiting to go. We're just about to head out for a couple of hours so that we're not here when our cleaning lady arrives.

    Flylady bathroom
Take integrated door off washing machine, a none integrated one is coming tomorrow :T
    Drink lots of water

    * Made a homemade smoothie. Much cheaper and healthier than buying one from supermarket.

    * Binge-watching Netflix. Getting the most out of our subscription.

    * Free wind, rain and waves facial.

    * When I posted my parcel at the post office though Parcelforce it seemed to be a bit cheaper than I expected. Looking on the receipt there was a discount applied under code "R4U". Looks like the ParcelForce have a discount scheme. You sign up here and they send you a card for future discounts. (Link)

I'm another one of the 'Where is the sleep club'

I'm getting sleep just in bits with my arm at the minute so don't feel like I've had a decent nights sleep overall or feel refreshed in the morning

I'm very slow with chores, as it is very, very close here. The weather is undecided whether to have a cracking thunder storm or brighten up but it is also draining.
Out this morning to post a parcel and put prescription in.
Really didn't want to go to the supermarket but really needed cat bits. It was noisy and crowded in there so was an extremely quick shop.
Still putting together a large box of items to be sent off for the charity tombola. Hoping it will be done and out of the house by Thursday, now that I will be chuffed with. Items out of the house that can be used by others to raise charity funds.

    Quidco checked
Banking all checked, everything good with d. debits
Preparing for a big event tomorrow night but I haven't really done anything and DD stressing about it although there isn't that much to do.

Can't think of anything else for now
    Have a good evening everyone
