But it sounds like she's running the install DVD from within Windows rather than booting from it for a clean install.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0

I'll let this 'install' run it's course and see if it asks for a Product Key. I'm going to have a break and check again later, thank you.
Update - I went back and this time, from the BIOS, it went straight to the correct (press any key) for install. As EveryWhere advised in previous thread I chose custom install.
It is now installing Windows and is at 37% - a long haul but thank you so, much.
Not finished yet but, this time, hopefully on the right track.

You did delete all the partitions on the Operating System drive before installing, didn't you? If not, this is what you were supposed to do. If so, all is good.0

I think that's what I did. The install has gone successfully from the DVD - it is 'Installing important updates' now and I am posting from my Dell laptop at present.
Is there a way I can check to see if I did delete all the partitions? I think I did at the 'Custom Install' part.

I believe you followed this guide to install Windows. If that was followed properly, you will have deleted all the partitions.
Anyway, continue with your updates as they can take some time. Keep checking for updates until there are no more left and restart as required.0 -
Yes, thanks, that is the guide I followed (Same as Post # 66 link) and I recognize all the windows. The only (probably a concern) thing I definitely don't remember is keying in the Product Code.
This is the first time I was taken to the guide I recognized as the one I needed and I did manage to boot (sorted the BIOS thing first) from the DVD. I am cautiously optimistic.

So far everything seems to be running well after Windows Update and the C: Drive showing 55.9 GB free of 99.4 GB.
My Toshiba has much improved speed and I am looking forward to using it more now.

Does Explorer only show the 1 drive? What size is your HDD supposed to be?
If it's supposed to be a 120GB drive then that should give around 111GB actual formatted space ... as you only show 99GB then you seem to have lost 12GB (unless that has been allocated for a recovery partition).
Apologies if I'm asking stupid questions - I've not read the guide linked, - it's just that I can't see where a 99GB usable drive space comes from based on normal HDD sizes.0 -
Re your post # 49 DoaM, thanks - There is also a DVD drive. The new SSD was installed and a clean install (with lots of help and after a struggle) of Windows 8.1 booting from DVD.
The SSD is: Integral 120GB P series 5 SATA lll 2.5 SSD - 560MB/s SKU Code 347533,
as advised by EveryWhere - and I have the old HDD in a Caddy.
Although the figures don't mean much to me, my Toshiba L830 is heaps faster than before - a vast improvement I'm so pleased about.
