I'm just posting because I tried to access my thread entitled: "Getting ready to install SSD" to find that it is closed.
I'm not sure what this means. I've been grateful for all the help (Everywhere in particular) and I, having just returned home from being out, intended to move on with advice and do a clean reinstall.
If anyone knows the reason the thread is closed please let me know - could it be because it has become too long - or is something wrong? I'll log out now to have some lunch and a bit of time to get organised before starting again.
Many thanks

It just means that some...let's call them people for the sake of being polite, disrupted your previous thread for no good reason and then complained about being told they were disrupting the thread for no good reason. So it has been closed by the forum moderators, effectively cutting off your lifeline. Seemingly the only way to stop the clowns from continuing to disrupt the thread.
Hopefully they will stay away from this one.0 -

I'm sorry to hear that, Everywhere. I'll consult the initial thread to make a start again.
I managed to change the language to English (UK) but when booting up and on exit (and a few other things) the language is still Danish. Most of the time it is now in English. When I do a clean install - will the new instal have English - or still Danish on boot up etc?
When I follow your instructions in the window you posted about language - where is that from, please? I'm not sure what it means to install to allocated space.
I was relieved to find all the unzipped, downloaded files (9 of them) safely in 'Downloads' in File explorer. I'm going to transfer them to a USB stick just now.
I'll transfer them over (using the USB) to my Dell laptop, close down here and do the clean install - using your link, thank you.

Quoting is not always necessary!0 -
I didn't know that was inadvisable, John Gray, (post # 4) and I'll stop doing it. Is it, most of the time, advisable to post just a quick reply?

It wasn't you who was the main person doing this overquoting, so do not feel (too) guilty!
If the post to which you are replying does not need to be quoted in its entirety, or even in part, then avoiding quoting makes the thread so much easier to read, and better results might well be obtained! :T0 -

You can always quote the post but just delete most of it, especially the parts that aren't relevant. That way they'll know you're replying to them but at the same time it'll stop the board clogging up.0 -

Can you see this link?; https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-clean-install-windows-8-or-8-1-2626254
It's the one you needed to follow when installing the Windows 8.1 International DVD.
Go back to post #118 in the previous thread and follow the instruction for a clean install of the Operating System. Do you remember how you used F12 to get the laptop to boot from the DVD?
It concerns me, the questions that you are asking. As it means that you possibly didn't do any of it during the initial install. Each of the 32 picture represents something you should see and act on along the way.
Please don't respond to any other posters on this thread.0 -
I see in the original thread it was advised to simply clone the existing drive and then swap the drives over. I've put SSDs in a number of machines now and have always followed that procedure with no problems at all.
I really cannot for the life of me understand why anybody would be advising a reinastall of windows along with messing about downloading drivers.
The whole job takes about an hour and you can be having a coffee break for most of that.0 -

Whenever I install a new primary drive in my computer, I prefer to do a fresh installation of Windows. That's just something I do out of force of habit. I find a reinstall can clear the cobwebs, so to speak.0 -
Re post # 8, EveryWhere. The links seem to be the same -" Can you see this link?; https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-clean-install-windows-8-or-8-1-2626254"
I did get distracted but am on track now and will stick closely to your posts. I have had quite a bit of interruption today with telephone calls etc. I expect to have a quieter time from now on with better concentration.
I'll follow your posts and not be distracted. Thank you for your patience and tolerance.
