I'm not off to a good start for the week...the washer/dryer isn't working. DH has changed the fuse but it won't turn on and is making a strange noise. I'm already behind on the laundry and this is not an expense I need right now!

You might just have to get all the pipes unblocked, whether fuzz or a sock (I've had both).  But good luck - late October before a house move is certainly not the best of times for costs

The control board has gone. We can buy a new one for £70 and attempt to fit it ourselves, but it's a lot of money if it doesn't work & tbh I'd rather have a separate washer & dryer once we've moved. I think I'm going to order a washing machine and then see how long we can last without a dryer. Probably not long in the Welsh weather, but then again if our move goes ahead we will have outbuildings I could use for drying washing.

Phoned solicitor for an update and she's on leave - again! Stressed to her secretary how urgent this now is and to be fair she called back within half an hour. She can't make any guarantees but everyone is working towards a moving date just over 2 weeks away. I'm starting to get excited again, but also finding it hard to believe it might actually happen.

Fair enough - I can hardly diagnose things in my own house let alone at a distance.  I think that is the right decision - good luck with the washing? do you have a launderette near you - £70 will buy you a lot of time, and those big dryers work super quick

No launderette nearby but my mum would no doubt do any urgent washing for us. TBH I don't use the dryer function an awful lot, mainly when the DCs need something urgently for school or I have a pile of towels that I can't line dry. I don't trust it not to shrink out clothes.
  • Sorry to hear the washer/drier is on the blink, our tumble drier is out of action and not able to replace at the moment. I've managed to get 2 loads of washing washed and dried on the line today which is amazing. I do have a small amount on the airer and have our little heater on for a couple of hours to get some heat into it.

Fingers crossed for house news soon!

Sorry your buyers pulled out but good you have new ones.  House moves are one of the most stressful things to contend with.  Fingers crossed all goes smoothly for the next two weeks.

Thanks all. Washing machine ordered. £270 I would rather not have spent today. Luckily we have some savings left from DH downgrading his car. It's supposed to be ring fenced for setting up a business once we move, but better to dip into that than get further into debt.

Oh, and my mum has put a load through her machine to tide us over.

Ouch to the bill for a new one - but good your mum can also help out. A heated airer may be another possible option - not that I've tried one. Considering whether to or not - as Ex is due to take my dryer...

We had a heated airer before, the type with the big blue bag over it. I wasn't keen on it but can't quite remember why. I think I could only dry a few items at a time. If they were too close together, or touching each other, they wouldn't dry.
