Sounds like a hassle but well done for getting it done. Sounds like the right call made on the car. Glad the previous owners are having to learn that vacant possession means vacant...

  • Today was the first of 5 days off work & typically I feel like I’m coming down with a cold! I’m trying not to let it get the better of me - I’ve loaded up on fruit and veg and spent ages outdoors to try and blow the germs away.

There’s still loads of our seller’s rubbish here at the house and the skip is being collected tomorrow. So, DH & I spent all morning outside getting as much as we can into the skip. I’m annoyed she’s not been back to finish it herself, but I just want it gone now. Plus, it’s given me plenty of exercise.

She even left two roosters here. Unfortunately one of them passed away a few days ago. Took DC3 to feed the other one this morning and that one had gone too. DC3 was devastated & broke his little heart. I think we’ll be getting some chickens of our own at some point.

I’ve agreed a sale on Fbook today for £75. It’s due to be collected tomorrow so fingers crossed they turn up.

    Great news on the £75.

Sad about the roosters. Some people really take the proverbial don't they...

Absolutely! But I also think it’s awful that she was living here with a young baby with the house in this condition. We had to leave DC3 with grandparents when we first moved in because the house was a health risk. It wasn’t this bad when we viewed and she signed a contact to say it would be clean & tidy!

  • I should probably add - the house looks nothing like that now! We’ve scrubbed every inch of it, re carpeted, and decorated.

When we were buying I was hoping that we would complete before October so that I could plant Daffodils. It was too late when we eventually got in (and I was too busy cleaning anyway) but in the last few weeks we’ve noticed hundreds of daffodils & snowdrops coming though. So that was one pleasant surprise at least. And now the grounds are pretty much clear, I can get cracking with some more gardening and planting fruit/veg.
  • We had that at our old house. Crocus and daffodils. I planted some tulips that always came up, new owner would have had that surprise last spring.

  • Our Fbook buyer turned up yesterday and kindly paid £80 instead of the £75 we agreed. He said he felt bad for haggling us down from £90.

We’ve had a lovely day today. We’d arranged to meet family at a museum but they were running late so we treated ourselves to breakfast in the cafe while we waited. It cost £28 for breakfast then £20 for museum entry but it was worth it for a good day out. FIL treated us to another cafe trip on the way out (meals for the little ones & tea and cake for DH & I) which meant nobody wanted feeding at home tonight so I’ve had a night off.

One of our neighbours complained/pointed out we have a tree overhanging the road so when we got home our friendly neighbouring farmer helped DH to cut down most of the overhang. We’ve all since been out in the field recovering the wood into one of the outbuildings to dry out. Once it’s cut up and dry it will make great firewood, and has also given me some inspiration for crafting ideas.

  • Another lovely day today, but this time with no associated cost. We took a 10 minute drive to the coast and found a lovely walk through a nature reserve, alongside a lagoon, and down to the beach. The scenery was breathtaking.

Hopefully the weather will allow us to get out for walks most weekends as we’ve got so much of the area to explore.

I’ve done some work on updating the budget. Things are ok at the moment but we’re still planning to make a big business investment. This will make things tight so we really need to work on
minimising our expenses and finding ways to boost our income. Ideally I’d like to make an extra £10 a day. Business is slow but that’s the first place to start by pushing our Easter and Mother’s Day gifts. I’ve also got 3 boxes full of items (clothes & toys) to sell. Some are already listed on Fbook but not had much interest so will need to try eb@y or maybe v!nted.

We’ve finally had our first elec bill since moving in its averaged at around £1 a day, which I’m really happy with. We’re currently paying £115 per month which is way over what we’re using so we can hopefully reduce the monthly payments and keep some credit on the account to counteract the future price rises.

Just catching up on your diary. How could anybody live in conditions like that, I would have been ashamed to have left a house like that for the new owners. Hope all is well with you and the family. What a lovely place to have a walk.xx
