  • Enjoy the lion king and school of rock. I thought the lion king was ok, but the smallest enjoyed it. And I loved school if rock, such a fun production.

Hi all. I hope everyone is well and had an enjoyable Christmas, still catching up on diaries.

Quite a long time since I last posted. We went to London and had a nice time there. DH and DD caught covid, somehow myself and DS have still managed not to. I had to have time off work due to having a bad back, still have no idea what I did to hurt it so bad but is much better now. DD turned 9 this month and she had such a lovely day out, that was cancelled on her last birthday because of restrictions. Was so pleased we got to go as when she caught covid it cancelled her theatre trip again and halloween, bonfire night etc. My baby nephew ended up in hospital with covid too this month which was very worrying but he is back home and recovering well 😅.

Had a nice Christmas and got to see some family and friends I haven't seen in a while. We usually have a couple of Christmassy days out but didn't do any this year. Oh, apart from taking DD to a panto that was so bad we left at the interval 😂 it was an experience anyway and all was not lost as my niece lives around the corner from that theatre so we spent a lovely day with her.

Money has been tight with us having time off due to covid/bad back. Hoping to get back on track in the new year, need to actually check balances on the debts and see where we are now as have just been paying the token payment and haven't really looked into it any further lately.

Me and DH have been having some troubles lately. Nothing major has happened but nothing good is happening either. He hates his job and is miserable and in turn he is making me not want to be around him. Feel like we are just stuck in a rut. We have been through a lot over the years but could never imagine not having him here, but sometimes lately I feel like I could. Unsure what to do about it at the moment.

I started to feel unwell Christmas day. Coughing, but mainly at night, sore throat and very achy. Seem to have had to do LFTs everyday for the last couple weeks again with lots of people I know catching covid around me, all of those were negative but took a PCR aswell but that has come back negative too so must just be a general cold so have been dosing up on lemsips 😆🤢 so gross. DS finally had his 2nd jab today, a few hours later he said he didn't feel great so gave him some paracetamol and not long after he was fast asleep before he had any dinner but hopefully he will feel better after a good sleep.

Going to go catch up on some more diaries. Take care all.

Lovely to hear from you again, and glad you had a nice Christmas.

Hope everyone has recovered ok from Covid and hope you feel better soon.  Sorry to hear about your troubles, it is hard when someone is dragging everything down.  Can DH look for a new job?  Is it worth a trip to the GP if he's depressed?  Hugs from me xx

welcome back Robin - glad you had some good times.  Its been depressing all round for many people, and has focussed many on the negatives of life.  maybe suggest some new year resolutions about doing a few more fun things, or even more seriously about being nicer to each other - with pre teen kids it isn't going to get any easier so be strong.

There are lots of jobs about, and when (!!!) we rebound I think the opportunities will be there if you are ready.  very few people can only do one thing - why not both have a look even if you yourself aren't being that serious - who knows.  You sound very organised and hard working and good with people - that would tick 3 boxes for me and my work

Thank you both, it's good to be back 🙂.

Spent time today with DD sorting her room out and making room for the stuff from Christmas that needed to go in there, mainly books and puzzles. Filled a bag for charity and a small bag for the rubbish bin. Switched some stuff about to make better use of her storage. Her room is tiny, and is overran with books so we packed some of the ones she's read into lidded boxes to store under her bed. Looks alot tidier in there now. DS has been feeling a bit grotty after yesterday injection, so has been asleep quite a bit of the day but he also got some stuff sorted in his room.

DD has been saying she would like to save for a new trampoline for the summer, ours is years old and very battered after many storms. I drew her up a savings chart where she can colour in each pound saved. She was really pleased with it and went to show DS who gave her £20 towards it, made her day. She now has 29 squares coloured, not bad for her first day 😊.

DH went back to work today. He hasn't really said much to me today. He has said lately he will go talk to a doctor but they are not doing appointments at the moment. He has been saying for so long that he will look for another job and knows he is down about it but he hasn't done anything towards it, I don't want to argue with him about it so I am just hoping he will look into it more. Looked into the debt figures today and it now stands at just below £2850, lowest debt is under £250 now so will concentrate on that. Getting so close but with everything we have zero savings at the moment so still seems a lot. But new year, new start. I'm looking forward to it.

Well done to DD on the trampoline funds!

The debt progress is fantastic.  Glad DH is considering the GP.  I know from experience that taking the edge off the depression can be enough to motivate you to make changes.

Hope 2022 is fab for you :)

having seen my OH's bestie struggle with depression, and then seen the world of difference that medical treatment has made, despite reluctance to seek it, you have to make it a priority for you and your DH - who will be lacking in motivation so you may need to pick up some slack to move this forward.  An argument my OH used was "if your leg is broken you go to the doctor to get it fixed and its exactly the same with your mental health"

  • I think the past two years have had a big impact on relationships. So many plans ruined or postponed, what started as an 'in it all together' spirit has been worn down to a never changing feeling of dread.

I hate the fact that my hubby will be working from home for ever. I don't mind it most of the time, but I never have the chance to be alone in the house. He takes offence when I disappear upstairs to get some time to watch a film, or read a book, alone, but sometimes we need that time to ourselves

Encourage him to see the doctor, and talk to him about what he needs to do to start changing his job. Some planning for this may prompt him to take a step, or allow him to realise sometimes the grass isn't actually greener elsewhere.

Good to see if you posting again.

Thank you all 😊 progress was made as when DH came home from work he had started an econsult with the doctor, they have text to say a doctor will ring at some point soon, just knowing he's finally looked is a relief.

A super lazy day. Apart from sorting some washing out, we have done nothing but play games and eat some of the Christmas treats. We had planned on going out for a walk but it was such a horrible wet and windy day out. Looking forward to getting back to a proper routine next week though.

Bought DD some new school trousers for the new term so £13 spent on those.

Plan for today is to sort January's budget out and see what we are working with.
