I've been told Stronghold is good but the same price at Frontline so I might try Advantage first.0

My pets have not had fleas for years and I see no reason to continually vaccinate against fleas. I have 4 cats and 2 Dogs so you could imagine the cost of that. I saw fleas on them and went to my vet and bought FrontLine I used the Product on them for about 4 months and sprayed the house with RIP Fleas several times, but my animals still have fleas and in fact they had increased. If this product no longer works it should be removed from the market instead of costing people a lot of money for a product which no longer works. I will be trying a different treatment.0

Welcome! You've just discovered the reason it is recommended to continually treat both dogs and outdoor cats for fleas, out of control infestations. An infestation can progress extremely quickly and the eggs are highly resistant to chemicals - I once had a house professionally fumigated three times to get rid of an infestation from the previous owners. There is resistance to Frontline but this is believed to be down to people using the product incorrectly as you have, as an occasional cure instead of a regular preventative.
When you treat your home you must thoroughly spray every inch - hard floors as well as carpets, sofa and mattress, underneath all the furniture. Also hot wash your soft furnishings - curtains, bedding, cushions. Please also ensure you have treated all your pets for ear mites and worms.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
So glad to have found this thread. My vet has been insistent that the frontline is working ok but it me using it incorrectly that is the issue. However, my cats and dogs have been permanently on frontline since last december, I've sprayed the house, vaccuumed the house, have a dehumidifier running and still the house is full of fleas. Just looked at one of the kittens on a dark chair and the chair is covered in little white flea eggs. I'm at my wits end not least because I take really bad reactions to the flea bites. I've owned cats and dogs my whole life and never had issues with fleas like this.
going to change now, unfortunately I've just ordered more frontline, wonder if they'll change the order?0 -
Switch to a prescription product like Advocate whilst you break the cycle. How are you spraying the house and what product are you using? Are you doing every room including hard floors, moving all the furniture, doing your car, the bed and inside the sofa?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

I was aware that Frontline was becoming less effective - its the same with 'nit' treatments - the insects are not stupid and become resistant to most chemicals over time!
I tried Acclaim with excellent results (and it is cheaper than Frontline) for the home.0 -

I'm afraid that is usually the case. Frontline is still as effective as it's always been. The rumour it has become ineffective or that fleas are resistant to it is perpetuated by internet forums such as this but it's not actually true“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I whole heartily agree that Frontline no longer works. My vet kept insisting it did but my two kittens had fleas for months until I saw another vet (same surgery) who agreed it no longer work in our area. Been on Advocate for 14 months now feel so guilty they had 4 months of flees thanks to rubbish Frontline. This was both from the vet and the chemist.
Try something different is my advice and if Frontline works for you that also fine.Save £12k in 25 No 49

There is no official data to support this. The same could be said for antibiotics whereby people who take them frequently but don't finish the course find they stop working as effectively over time. This doesn't mean to say the antibiotics don't work though, just that they don't work for some people who don't use them properly.
Treating fleas isn't just about spraying or applying drops to your animals, it's about effectively treating the whole environment too which is absolutely necessary to stop the flea cycle in it's tracks. You're only ever going to kill 95% of them anyway but if effective treatments are in place, the other 5% will be dealt with before they can become a problem and infest your home.
Very few people have such a rigorous flea protocol in place and usually wait until they notice fleas on their animals before rushing out to treat them by which time they've probably infested your home. A bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted
ETA: Acclaim is also excellent for dealing with household flies. I've just killed at least half a dozen of those horrible big blue bottles in the past hour. I get great satisfaction from hearing their buzzing reach a heightened crescendo just before they drop dead“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Hi all
My housemats cat has been diagonised with a flea allergy they refered to it as SADs or something like that what does this mean?
They have told us that Frontline is not strong enough for this condition and he needs to use Advocate or Stronghold which is fine but I have just heard of this type of condition before.
We have thoughly blitzed the house and all my animals are treated but unfortunately I have only been using frontline so I'm going to have to change aswell.First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0
