Not necessarily: the receptionist might have meant that Advocate is the vet's replacement for Stronghold rather than the manufacturer's0

I still use Frontline on my two cats and dog and as yet (touch wood) we've not had any fleas...however I do the entire house once every 12 months with Indorex (and if I get a new animal bed/new furnishing) so I suspect that might be why - it's fabulous stuff0

No that is not what she said - she said they have stopped making . It is not the first time that this vet have had a receptionist talk utter cr*p to me! I think their training must be awful.0

apart from when we first got her, my dog has never had fleas. She has however picked up ticks from somewhere, I think from the bottom of the garden where the previous owner had a pile of what appeared to be rotting conifer and hawthorne branches. Nasty blighters and a beggar to get out. We do not routinely use flea treatment and had never used Frontline until this happened but it seemed to work. All had been quiet for a few months and have stopped using it but blow me she got another one yesterday. She squealed and fought like a mad thing when we went to get it out. I didn't think they hurt, but perhaps she is just a wuss?We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0

I have always regularly treated my dogs with Frontline but noticed that they have been scratching lately. I didn't think it could be fleas because they have been frontlined a month ago and also bathed in flea shampoo. However, I put Frontline on them again just to be sure and also sprayed their bedding with flea treatment. They still seem to be scratching, although not that much so Im not sure whether to try a different flea treatment now just in case? Can you buy Advocate on the internet?0

I used stronghold monthly for 6 months when my stray arrived with a really bad infestation. It, and spraying our home, shifted them.
After the first 6 months I changed to Frontline as I'd read that it is a good idea to change the flea treatment regularly. However, he is scratching again and I've been finding the odd flea.
What is working these days, preferably without prescription?
ThanksMy first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

I use Frontline and have to be really strict with it or my youngest dog gets a skin irritation - i'm worried now that if Frontline isn't working i need to find something that does. Also for those of you with itchy dogs - my friend owns a dog rescue and told me to give my youngest half a piriton tablet a day - it works trust me!A home is not a home ..... without a dog0

Hi everyone
Just read about frontline not working and some one being given Promeris.
There is a safety warning on this one.
Did try to put in the link but being a new user I couldn't. Just google Promeris and it is about the third link down.
Not sure about it now. Don't know what to use.0 -
NOt sure why drag a 2 yo thread up but...
Advantage can now be bought without prescription from online pet pharmacies.
I use https://www.animeddirect.co.uk - free, fast postage and very reasonable prices.0 -
