Frontline flea treatment WARNING.

I have always treated my 3 cats with frontline and had no problems with fleas whatsoever. This month only 2 weeks after treating them I found I was being bitten. On closer inspection of the cats they had fleas. Please bear in mind this was only 2 weeks into a 4 week protection period.
Went to see my vet to see if I could retreat them with anything and he supplied me with the following info. Fleas are now becoming resistant to frontline due to the fact that it has been on the market for years. He has supplied me with a different treatment called Promeris. It is a spot treatment the same as frontline, but uses different chemicals I assume. This item is about the same price as frontline and seems to really work.
Within 24 hours of use I was finding dead fleas on the floor. This stuff seems to be working. Have now had to spray the whole of my house to kill any lava etc.
Just thought I ought to warn people who the same as me
assume their cats are flea free because they use frontline.

And when no hope was left inside on that starry starry night.

yes my vet said much the same thing to me too - unfortunatly my cat doesnt tolerate frontline - it makes he sick - so I'm stuck with collar & thingsI THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0

Our vet recommends Advantage but it is even more £££ than Frontline!0

Frontline stopped working on my dogs over a year ago , I was going crazy , my vet insisted it still worked and there was nothing else . Last time I went I refused Frontline saying I was just throwing my money away so he offered me Stronghold instead . Have not seen a flea since . It also kills earmites and protects against fox mange and its also about the same price.Never pay more than you have too0

I'm going to show my ignorance again...sorry.
Are we talking about a build up of a particular product on your pet, as in 10 applications on Fido or Tiddles? Or is this a general warning about a breed of super-flea?
Pup is due his third application in the next couple of days & technically needs the jollop from the next weight group. One local pet shop has some newly licenced stuff that is supposed to be in line for direct competition for Frontline, so should we go for that instead? If only I could remember the name.......it came onto the market just about five weeks ago......Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Thanks for this info - I was thinking of moving to Frontline for my dog but don't think I'll bother.
Do you mind if I cross post this info to another forum? I'm not sure what the rules are0 -
Big MummaF I assume its a similar thing to what happened with nits and nit lotion. So many people used nit lotion (with the same chemical in), that over time, the nits evolved and developed an immunity to the chemical in the nit lotion. Also a bit like bacteria that have developed a resistance to antibiotics as well.0

Our vet changes what he gives out for flea treatments every 6 months, and we have never had any problem with this.He has done this for years.0

One of the reasons Ive always been wary about blanket treating "just in case"
In 16 years of dog owning only ever had fleas twice - and both times treated successfully with shampoo, combing and spraying the house with indorex.
Unfortunately now I live in sheep country(past 2 years) both dogs have to have Advantage every two months because of the ticks0
