Frontline flea treatment WARNING.

Hello to everybody.
I too have been very upset about my dog getting fleas, I have always use the flea collar, but in August his groomer said she had found a flea on him, got Frontline from the Vet and he is still bothered by then , he is brushed every day and I still find a flea, I am angry about this as it isnt cheap, but as you all have realized ( thank goodness) that Frontline is the problem, I think the vet ought to have told me about this and suggested something different.
He is now due for more treatment, may go back to the collar, not only is this cheaper but I know it works, I have had dogs all my life and never had problems with the collars.
I have read that there is a flea epidemic due to the fluctuations in the weather we have been having (this came from an expert on the subject), perhaps that is why my dog has been plagued by them? You live..You learn.:)0 -

Fleas driving me crazy too - two cats and one dog who have always had Frontline and never a problem. For the last five weeks they are now scratching and I am finding fleas on them. Keep treating with the Frontline but to no avail. I spoke to my vet who said it was probably down to the fleas getting into the soft furnishings in the home and suggested R.I.P. Flea to spray the house - another £20.00. Have sprayed the house but fleas still about. What is the best spray out there and can I get it cheaper on-line.0

I sprayed the whole of my house with staykil. It kills live fleas for about a week I think and then protects the house for 1 year against flea larva hatching. Seems to work, but not sure if it is only available at the vets. Have a look at some of the online vet suppliers.
Don't forget you need to eliminate the fleas on the pets as well, else you will never be flea free.0 -
We changed to Frontline 3 months ago but just posted on another part of the forum that I treated mine with Frontline last Monday and found a flea on one of them today, oh heck, maybe that is why.
Have planned on treating the house aswell, it's only started since we moved into the new house. I will speak to the vets about changing treatment.
Just found staykill on www.wormers.co.uk website, so can get it elsewhere, probably on most of the sites which now do such treatments and vet prescriptions cheaper. Frontline I paid £29 for on Monday is £14 something plus vat on there! RIP spray £9.86 I think it was plus vat.One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Hi,
I've had problems with my cat having fleas for the first time in 7 years of owning her. Have bought her a new collar, sprayed her (which made her foam at the mouth after grooming), then 2 weeks later applied a 1st of 3 courses of Bob Martin flea treatment for cats, but I'm still being bitten relentlessly (and ONLY ME out of 5 of us here) - although I haven't seen any on the cat, but she's not keen on much handling because she's a moody pants, so can't be totally sure she's flea-free, but not seen her scratching or biting them.
Anyway, I've also bought a powder to treat the rugs and left it on overnight over a week ago, am vacuuming daily, but still finding fleas hopping onto me while I sit on the sofa, or just walk across the room. The sofa is leather, the floors are wood laminate, and have 2 rugs which have been treated. What, if anything, can I treat the leather sofa with?
Also, I wondered if putting any soft furnishings, like throws or cushions into the freezer overnight might help? I've heard that fleas and their larvae can lie dormant for months until they find a suitable host to live off of again, so am concerned about it.
Mrs Moobury, the moody cat, is even more moody because she's been banished to the utility room away from the rugs and furniture. She refuses to go into her bed that I sprayed that's out there so is sleeping on the worktops if she can get away with it (grrr).
Is there anything to repel fleas from biting humans? I must smell irresistable to the bloody things because they can sense me from several feet away and fling themselves over ASAP when I turn up.
Feeling alot of sympathy with others' who have the same problems. I couldn't take my little boy swimming today because I'm so self-conscious about the glowing red bites all over me. Urgh! One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
I was just about to switch to Frontline for my two moggies, i'll look for something else now. Thanks!0

I'm going to show my ignorance again...sorry.
Are we talking about a build up of a particular product on your pet, as in 10 applications on Fido or Tiddles? Or is this a general warning about a breed of super-flea?
It seems fleas may be getting ressistant to the most popular methods of flea treatment:eek:0 -
Hopefully our MSE vet members can give us some input on this.0
