Hopefully our MSE vet members can give us some input on this.

I added my 2 pennorth on the "Promeris" thread
I have said this about F****line for some time as I have "known" of issues for about 3 years but obviously it has now reached a point where it no longer works. Thankfully Advantage is still working as is "Stronghold". I would advocate anyone to change soon, before these resistant fleas make it into their house as once they are established you are back to square one.

My cat is on advantage, I was going to ask about swapping him onto frontline as it is a lot cheaper looks like I won't be now!

Hi My cat was given Advocate by the vet and apparently this incorporates worming her too I was given 2 tubes to take away also and the cost for consultation and Advocate came to £30 which I thought was reasonable. I have noticed her scratching though but not noticed any "friends"..will keep an eye out. shrewdal

We get Stronghold now instead of Frontline.

Whilst on the subject, can I implore people not to use Bob Martin for cats - it's evil stuff and has killed loads, I can't believe it's still on sale.

I doubt it kills them, it wouldn't be on sale if it did.

But I know it doesn't kill fleas.

Why would someone use dog stuff on a cat.

They are different species of animal:confused:

I was assuming they meant Bob Martin for cats:confused:

Eating Garlic is supposed to help stop midges biting, maybe it will help stop the fleas. Its funny how they go for some people and not others-my sister and daughter get eaten alive and they leave me alone.!
I had noticed Frontline had stopped working on our cat a year ago.use flea collars now, and a spray from the vet for floors etc. Try not to use it though as we have parrots and fish, and its deadly for them.
I might be crazy but I'm not stupid....

Never underestimate the public's ability to NOT read instructions, it happens quite regularly. Someone has 3 or 4 cats or a cat and dog and thinks it is easier and cheaper to just to buy a single tube of flea treatment, hey presto - dead cat. Most vets will have come across it.
We use Stronghold for cats and are moving to Practic & Stronghold for dogs
  • Snowman 2 is right! Unfortunately I have also seen cats die from cat Bob Martins.

To the OP who said it wouldn't be on sale if it killed cats. . . Well it isn't a licensed prescription product so doesn't have to go through the testing and safety AND proving it works that prescription drugs do!

Also Bob Martins is a flea repellent - not flea killer so your house could be crawling in fleas being mildy repelled, but they are not dying!

I think that Frontline resistance will only grow now it isn't prescription only, more people will use it. I sprayed a stray cat on admission (as he had fleas and ticks) with the correct dose of Frontline spray and he lived for 2 weeks in a flea free hospital environment with clean cage/bedding twice daily and 2 weeks later found a flea on him!!! One application of Stronghold and he is all clear, and living with me with his 3 legs, 1 ear and 1 tooth!
Give yourself a Chistmas bonus £14 a week!
    Total so far £28
