For the record, I am an existing PlusNet customer and when I rang to upgrade from standard to fibre optic unlimited - I was able to obtain the £9.99 for 6 months, £19.99 thereafter deal without too much argument from customer service.

I was speaking to them today and they told me the best they could do was two months half price then 19.99 for the rest of my contract - if it had been six months I would have taken it as I have my phone with them aswell and pay up front line rental I was a bit disappointed at their offer - currently looking at the EE cashback offer, shame Plusnet give me a good service.

Sorry just realised that post was quite old.

ISPs could let you keep your old email address when you jump ship, in return for you agreeing to let them send you reminders of their future offers (And not spamlist them of course). A much more productive approach than hoping to hold your Email address hostage to stop you moving - which only teaches everyone to use Yahoo Email or Gmail.
  • Virgin offer works out at £15.83! for Fibre optic 30Mbs for their Broadband only package!

    MSE Coupon £55 cashback
Nectar Points through nectar e-shop £22.50 (4500 points)
    Virgin own cash back £25.00

    Package - (22.50*12)+(11.25*6) 18 month contract
    Installation Fee £49.95

    Total £385.45

    Deductions -£55 (MSE) -£25 (Virgin) - £22.50 (Nectar)

£284.95 Divide that by your 18 Month contract and hey presto the cheapest Fibre I have seen around for this duration of time!

BARGAIN £15.83pcm, that if you reuse your nectar points as cash!
  • So I'm moving to a new house in October, out of a houseshare into a private renting with my partner, so we have nothing to transfer and are starting from scratch.

According to the MSE page the best deal is the TalkTalk package (£7 at the moment, but only if don't have to start from scratch like us. And £13 otherwise), but the EE deal (I am with T-mobile) is the next best one on offer at £16.50. At the bottom of the page are links to Quidquo offering around £100 cashback on the EE deal which would make it an amazing deal for us. How reliable are Quidquo and other cashback site on these deals? Or should we just go with talktalk?
  • how much cashback can you get with talk talk?

I'm with them and have had no problems at all. can't fault them.

EE were crap when I was with them.

watch out on the cashback deals, if you need a new line then many won't pay out
  • My contract with talktalk is due to end soon so I've been looking into the options I have since the 12mth half price offer I was on will be ending too.

I've been thinking ee have the next best deal but I'm not a mobile customer. How long would you need to be a payg customer with ee/orange/tmobile to get this offer?

    Thanks

Am I the only person that thinks it's really annoying (and dishonest and greedy) that you can't order broadband without a line? Especially fibre broadband which doesn't actually need the line.

Isn't it mis-advertising that they are busy advertising "low" prices for broadband and then put in very fine print that you need to get the phone line. Most comparison sites don't take the cost of the line into account either. It's also a requirement that you take their line, even if they aren't the cheapest!

Virgin media has been advertising broadband only/no phone line deals for student houses.
  • We're moving house in the next few weeks and the new place has virgin media installed currently.

I just wanted to see what my options are with regard to standard vs. fibre optic broadband packages? Ideally we'd get the cheapest available broadband option (TalkTalk?), not overly bothered about telephone, and the OH isn't a fan of Virgin from previous negative experience. I know it depends on whether or not the BT line is still available in the property, wondered if anyone has experience with the same scenario?

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks :)
