  • Hi,

This is my first time in the forum so any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm moving on Monday and am trying to sort BB as well as gas/elec.

We're not planning on having a TV (pricey license and we watch everything online anyway) so we need a unlimited broadband ONLY package.

I thought O2 would work out cheaper based on the info on MSE but contacted them and that offer has expired. Cheapest now works out as 13.75 for non O2 customers:

£17.50 Plus 6 months half price broadband
(£8.75 for 6 months and then £17.50 for 6 months)

Only other thing I've found is TalkTalk which if you pay line rental up front works out as 12.75 plus weekend calls.

Anyone got any other tips?? Also gas/elec would be fab, not sure who the current providers are but moving on Sunday so quick response would help!

    Thanks.

Is it possible to get a new contract in hubby's name as my contract is due for renewal next week?

I phoned Plusnet and they are going to reduce my monthly broadband cost from £12.99 a month to £9.75 a month, £3.24 a month saving! :j :money:
  • Hi,

I'm trying to switch from tiscali (talk talk) as I pay an awful lot each month for a service that slows and drops regularly even though it is unlimited.

Have been in touch with BT but as my son games on line they tell me they will restrict my speed. Does anyone know typically how much the speed will be restricted by. They tell me in my village the best I can get is 7.5Mb

    Thanks
  • We are in SE London and get broadband only from Virgin.

We missed one DD with them back in May and since then, they have added late charges, £5 for not paying by DD and refuse to answer my letters about reinstating my DD payment or waiving the charges.

We are on £22.50 per month for broadband only. Our questions are:

    1. We don't have a BT line so what alternative suppliers do we have to Virgin, cable only?
    2. Are there cheaper but not rougher deals out there as £22.50 seems high to pay for only broadband.
    3. How do you get Virgin to respond to your letters?

    Any tips appreciated.
  • I find that Martin's link is not working for me but the normal link does give £10.99 for the first 6 months and then £16.99 thereafter.
  • Hi,

I would like to join talktalk essentials but it "appears" that it is not available in my area though neighbours around me seem to have talktalk.

https://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker says "TalkTalk (CPW) is available in your area"

https://sales.talktalk.co.uk/sales/availability says "We're sorry, our checks show that the address you have entered is outside of our network"

Also when I go through the "No, I don't have a landline number or I want a new landline" option it allows me to proceed, but I dont want a new landline!

Can anyone offer any advice regarding the eligibility check that might clarify the above for me? Many Thanks

    Sam

I would be grateful if someone can help me with the above please. I just called talktalk and they mentioned that BT/Post office might have put a tag on the line for retention - could this be true and if so how can I get it removed?
  • Hi,

I have been looking online at some of the great deals for broadband as my current provider BT has rubbish customers service among may other issues related to me not being able to use my land line if I want broadband speed greater than dial up if I need to use my land line phone.

So armed with my MAC I headed out I found deal after deal promising cheap broad band with unlimited usage but, everytime I try to sign up I am told that I can't and that the cheapest deal seems to be £34 per month for phone and broadband and I cant get any thing standalone.

can anyone suggest anything I can do to get cheaper service as when the same provider is offering me £5 unlimited and free for 6 months on a comparison site this seems both extremely overpriced and unfair. I live in a rural location but not in the middle of nowhere.

This just does not make sense to me?? why do I have to pay SOOOOO much for my service???:mad::mad::mad::mad: can anyone help me work out why this is the case or how I can get better service and value.

We need more information about your "back of beyond" BT exchange and your distance from it.

Use the web site "samknows" and publish the link or copy and paste the relevant information or post a screen shot of it.

If you have a look inside this web site, you should be able to find a map showing the speed (bandwidth) of your neighbours and identifying "not spots" (as against hot spots).

    http://www.thinkbroadband.com/

"very unfair" - but that may be the price you pay for a rural outlook (I have a gas main about 200 meters away but no access to it).

Here is a community that has to club together to obtain high speed broadband because some neighbours were blocking digging up the roads.

    Internet
Internet connectivity onto private estates is generally not that good, this is because potential providers (certainly in the case of Esher Place) often have to carry out multiple negotiations with road and house owners to lay single stretches of cable, making the project un-economic.
As we all connect more and more devices to the Internet and want to do more with them (walk round the garden with the iPad synching with the iCloud etc.) we will need better, more capable services.
We have two options: We can wait and hope that BT suddenly becomes aware of the needs of its customers, or we can install our own WiMax network. This is a technology that wirelessly delivers high-speed Internet services (20-30mb) to large areas (over 0.5 mile radius), rather like a wireless access point but, super-fast.
The beauty of this technology is we don’t have to dig up the roads and if we do eventually end up with fast, conventional broadband from BT, everyone’s got two ways to get onto the Internet.
We think WiMax could be a real enhancement to life on the Estate – perhaps you could tell us what you think at the AGM? If we get enough interest we’ll follow it up and put forward a proposal to you.

Hardly what you would call poor, remote and rural.

    You are not alone

Here is the exchange they are complaining about:

Here is possibly one of the deprived households that is complaining.

  • Browsed internet to review Broadband/telephone deals and made the mistake of clicking on the Talk Talk web page and putting my telephone number in their "check telephone line box to see if your line is current"! Now I am getting hassled by them telephoning me. So for just for browsing I now have a problem. I think Talk Talk are abusing the information, as I never gave them permission to use any of my details. Also look on Google the telephone number 02073451232 which Talk Talk called me from to see what others are saying! All be aware!
