So I think we have been disconnected from AOL (bills not paid from November onwards - idiot who was paying them moved in with g/friend and didn't really give a crap, idiot can't pay broadband or utility bills but can afford a wii!!!!!!!!), idiot say's he has documents to allow us to transfer the account to us & is meant to be coming around today - lets see if that happens!!!!!

If we are disconnected how long would a transfer take?
Can we move to another provider - I'm sure there is a site somewhere that you can check to see if you have broadband on your line already but can't find it.

We would like this done for christmas but highly likely it won't be.

What are Mac and Linux users supposed to use? (I have Windows, Mac and Linux on my broadband connection!)
Check to see if your router supports SNMP if so you can use products like PRTG or MRTG for Linux/Mac which will monitor all traffic through the router on one machine (unfortunately that one machine does need to be running whenever any of the others are)

You'd do a whole lot better posting this as a separate question rather than in the middle of a mammoth thread discussing the price of netbooks.

The key question is whose name is the phoneline in.

Great that's in someone elses name!

Well usually you can only get BB on a phone line in your own name and if the phone contract is ceased that takes out BB as well.

The chances are that AOL have issued a cease against the BB connection and it may be that their tag has been removed and the phone line holder can start a fresh BB contract. If not then you could be up a gum tree because my betting is that AOL will only talk to the account holder.

That is what is !!!!ing me off! We have the phone line on. If I tried to order a service it would come up if there was one on there right?

If you try to place an order and the AOL tag is still on your line the order will fail at some point - possibly before you even get the order placed. If that happens you'll need a MAC from AOL and I suspect they'll only issue one to the guy who is named on their contract.

Well he says he has documents to transfer everything to us but god knows when we will see them. I just hope AOL are no longer on the line.

    Hi,

Does anybody know how on earth you sign up for O2 broadband online? It seems impossible. I click on "Buy now" and it just keeps returning me to a "check availability in your area" page. Then it says "Hurrah! you can get it in your area". So then I click on "buy now" and it returns me to the "check availability in your area" page.

I've never known anything like it. Surely they aren't trying to make people phone up instead, so they won't qualify for the 4 months free. Nah, can't be that now can it!:A

I'm using this link first: (oh still not allowed to post link. geezus!!!)
in line with what the article tells you to do. Anyway, I'm referring to the link at Broadbandchoices website.

Do you have to register on the o2 site first? I am registered already but I am signing up on behalf of my Dad, and I don't think he's regsitered on the 02 site yet.

    Anyway, thanks for any help!

Not sure about the problems you are having signing up as I've gone part way with no problems but you should be going through a cashback site like Quidco or TopCashBack anyway or you are simply throwing money away.
