Asking for urgent advice.
I'm struggling with broadband. I am looking for a basic package speed wise - but with unlimited downloads. I dont need any fibre.
As a new sky customer - I was able to grab a £30pm full tv package code.
I'm unsure if they offer a discount on the sky broadband - or that I will have to pay £17.50 line rental plus broadband ontop.
Basically - what opinions/advice can be offered regarding a new broadband signup please. Doesn't have to be sky broadband.
Would really appreciate any input.
I have to signup today.
Thanks in advance.0 -
I've been with PlusNet for about 8 years now and always been happy with customer service availability and prices. However, recently I have noticed that I have been getting emails from them to say I've gone over my broadband limit and they are charging me £5 for 3gb more. Checked all my status updates were off but am still using incredible amounts of broadband. To put it in context, I usually use between 5 and 7 GB of my 10gb allowance last month I found I was chaged twice for extra gb. (contract was 1.99 per month for 12 months plus line rental)
I have come to the end of my current contract so went online to uswitch to see whats about. Turns out that PlusNet are showing one of the best deals.....for new customers......so I called them, they were not willing to match the new customer deal which was unlimited broadband at I think 2.50 plus line rental. I said that another operator was doing a similar deal and I would go there. The bloke said that I could do that but there would be a 2 week loss of service while the change over happened. I would still be moving from BT line to BT line (not going to cable). So I have not yet changed provider as I need the internet for work at home. Meanwhile, last month I found another £5 added to my bill and as the contract has ended the original deal has reverted to a standard deal so istead of £1.99 a month its 5.99. With all the extras they are adding on my bill has gone from £19 a month to £33. Can they really stop my service for 2 weeks if I change provider?0 -
NO , go to new provider , initiate switch , they manage the switchover dates etc so there SHOULD be no break in seviceEx forum ambassador

I have never lost service for more than a couple of hours but may depend on who you switch to - eg I think SSE can sometimes take longer.0

Yes, just to emphasise this, the rules changed last year, you also do not need a migration authorisation code (mac) any more from your current ISP, Just choose and register with your new ISP and they do the work on the changeover.0 -
Thanks for the help, I will give it a try, I thought a 2 week break was a bit archaic, but think PlusNet reps were trying it on. Talk about being held to ransom.0

Looks like it. For what it's worth, I moved from BT-owned PlusNet to BT a few months back for a far better deal, and there was virtually no down time at all.
PlusNet customer service used to be excellent, but BT have got their sticky little fingers on it now, and I found it to be diabolical - long delays in getting anything at all sorted out. BT is no better, but the deal was a lot better.
I shall, almost inevitably, be back to PlusNet as a new customer when the BT special offer period ends. What a ridiculous game.0 -
Anyone managed to get any money off the installation charge for fibre from SKY or any other supplier come to that ?.
Im with sky, last deal has ran out, price is a joke, id save money moving regardless unless they move on price. Im wondering what i can get out of sky. Im sure theyll move on the monthly price, if they dont ill just leave anyway. But the £50 installation fee for fibre is a bit tough to swallow if i go down that route, any chance i can get something off this ?. Do SKY have their own people or do BT do them all ? and thats that with the price, lump it or leave it.0 -
I just tried downloading the Rokario Software bandwidth monitor on my tablet (Surface) though I’m getting the following message after trying to download it:
This app can’t run on your PC.
Bandmonsetup (1) and Bandmonsetup (2) are also showing on the downloads file. Do I just press delete to remove these completely from my PC or do I have do something else to make sure these completely removed?

I joined SSE on their 38MB Fibre and anytime phone package last October - 18 month contract at £30 a month.
In today's weekly money saving email SSE have the Ultrafast (78MB) Fibre + anytime calls for a total of £21 pm for 18 months BUT it states that there may be a termination fee.
Just contacted SSE and switched - £27 phone termination fee and £120 ish Broadband termination, BUT you don't actually pay the fees, as a credit equal to the amount is added to your account. So I've now got 78MB broadband and the same phone package for £9 a month less - NO HAGGLING WHATSOEVER.
They guy at SSE, ANDY, even said that they would keep me updated via email with regard to any future phone/broadband deals so that I could switch again before the 18 months is up.
Thanks Martin Lewis and well done SSE - not many companies let you move between contracts as easily as that.0
