Well my Amazon subscriptions arrived early today and I doubled up on coffees,batteries,DS3's massive choc tin so he's got enough aero bubbles for around a year lol,dog treats and bin bags.

I don't need any loo roll as I have 2 bales of 45 in the loft as well as kitchen rolls..

Food stores are looking better and tally in with what we eat now and judging by how little my shopping is now would probably keep us going for years!!!

I am now 3 weeks ahead on the rent, aiming for a month and we are a full quarter ahead on the utilities.
Next on the agenda is getting my cash reserves back up to what I like to have in my cashboxes and to try and get a bit of a cushion in the bank too.

Flannels are more environmentally friendly than microfibre cloths which shed bits of plastic as they wear out.

True, but I'm assuming most people already have some. I know I do and I'm not chucking them out while they are still usable. On the shedding microfibres aspect, I bought a Guppyfriend bag which claims to catch something like 90% of microfibres. I've been using it consistently when washing artificial fibres and so far have yet to see any lint whatsoever. Makes me think that the problem may not be quite as simple as reports suggest

I know some cheap fleece blankets shed like mad ( and also shed their colour - you'd think polyester would be colour safe) but I wonder whether it's a bit simplistic to extrapolate to all types of artificial fibres
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Un glad you got your meds sorted finally :)

BDoggy your name reminded me of another prep we did I booked Rosie in for her jab next week. She's usually due the first week of Nov but our vet said it was OK to come early as we're going to be busy later in the month. So that's another expense done before the 31st. It also helps if there is any upset with the supply chain. We usually stock up on a years worth of meds while we're there so will be doing that as usual.

Perhaps prepping is having a positive effect as having extra stock at home enables the supply chain to fill up their spaces in supermarkets and warehouses.
While not shouting too loudly about personal prepping this seems a good argument to persuade others to prep.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

Thanks - just one of those minor annoyances when you're on a lot of meds, they're out of sync and the dose keeps changing. I wouldn't mind if they were stricter but also didn't just throw stuff at you that they can't re-use

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

Lots of families buy in bulk anyway, so I guess there's similar effect, although the intent is different

I'm looking forward to minimal grocery bills this autumn:beer:

This is true. We have a large supply of bath stuff, as I bought quite a bit much earlier in the year when sainsburys were selling off some kids bath sets at 20p each! I do that with lots of things. If it's reduced to a silly price, won't go off and we will use it, I stock up. Have plenty of toothpaste and toothbrushes for this reason also.

Bargain of the year was a BFG book bathtime set, by Blossom and Bloom, that they were selling off at 10p each! I managed to get the last one. Was dead chuffed. Mainly as I now have a lovely hardback version of the BFG for DD when she gets a little older! This is the set: https://bloomandblossom.com/products/bfg-bath-book-bedtime-gift-set Still £25 on their website!

ETA: Flood alert in place here today. It rained HEAVY most of the night, and more forecast today.

I would say “yes, use your bar soap”. You can use it either by wetting the bar and your thermals with warm water and gently rubbing the bar over the garments, or by grating a small quantity off the bar with a grater (a non-food-use grater would be best :D), or shaving shavings off with a knife (think Parmesan shavings), then dissolve the gratings/shavings in warm water and wash your garments as usual. HTH :)

Many thanks Blue Doggy, I chipped a few bits off the bar last night and the thermals swooshed through a treat, no bobbling at all

I know these things are probably second nature to a lot of people, but if you didn't grow up in an environment where knowledge was passed on it can be hard to know what information to trust - so thank you again.

Off in a bit for a blood test and some prep shopping afterwards (Homesense then Waitrose for Operation Yellowsticker and walnut oil) but I'm really hoping the positive vibes from yesterday's talks will translate into solid foundations for a deal. I'm not holding my breath, but wouldn't it be lovely to finally relax and just enjoy having full cupboards and a year's supply of shampoo? Fingers crossed eh x

Waitrose have some good offers on Method cleaning products this week if you use that stuff - we stocked up

  • I think we shall all have to be very robust during this emotionally turbulent period up to the end of the month, it's certainly showing me who my actual friends are, some people who I've known for quite some time are showing a very different side to their attitudes and it's come as quite a shock to think I knew someone who in reality I find I didn't!
