It's too late for some of us already Grey Queen. In the part of multinational company I work for the main sites for Europe were in Germany and the UK. After Brexit the decision was taken to centralise in Germany and the UK is being significantly downsized and will effectively become a small satelite operation. Our site will close completely and the few jobs that remain are being relocated well out the area. Unfortunately it isn't just the people who voted for Brexit who feel the impact of their decision. The requirements being imposed by the government on our sector make me fearful that some companies may pull out of the UK altogether.

Sadly, I think we will see more job losses and stories similar to your Skogar.
There is an article on the BBC website this morning, which talks about the experiences of companies who sell fashion into the EU. It states that many orders are being refused at the point of delivery, when it becomes clear to the purchaser that customs charges have been applied. There is a growing pile of 'returns' sitting in courier's warehouses across the EU waiting on the UK vendor decision on what to do. Some of these business have spoken directly to the Dept for International Trade and been advised the solution may lie in opening a EU distribution hub.
I don't know many people who work in picking and packing for fashion business, but those that I do are low paid and on zero hours or part time contracts with an expectation to work overtime on a more or less continuous basis. It is these people who will bear the brunt should their company follow Dpt. I&T advice.7 -
Surely European firms will suffer if Britain stops buying their goods...is this a temporary problem as we adjust to a new system? How's it going to be sorted, if indeed it is5

Daz the EU has 27 other countries to trade with - we are the lone banana republic that nobody wants to know.

i do hope the processes for import and export will become smoother with time. We are no longer in the customs union hence the charges and unless we ‘rejoin’ this is the new normal.4
