Well, I am going to have to put some of my prepping into action as our gas condensing boiler has decided to stop working tonight! Just in time for lockdown.
We only have one oil-filled radiator as an alternative means of heating one room. So I dug out the thick jumpers, extra blankets, space blankets (!), leg warmers and thick socks. I don't know how long we'll have to wait for a repair, I hope not too long as it's freezing!

I'm sorry to hear that. Is there any possibility that the shut-down is due to the condensate pipe (it leads from the boiler to outside) having frozen? It's a very common cause of boiler shut-down in freezing weather. Of course, you may not have had freezing weather, in which case, definately something else. HTH.

HTH.Thanks for reminding me about that, it certainly has been freezing weather here, we'll check it once other half has resurrected himself! It did happen years ago when the temp dropped to -6, but in that case the boiler was showing an error code. This time there's no display, no sign power is on at all, so I fear it's more serious.Welcome back to the forum btw, I don't post often but do lurk.

The village pub has started providing the grocery boxes they were doing in the first lockdown, they cost £20 but are enough to see a couple through most of a week and they will even deliver if people don't have transport though mostly it's a collection in the pub carpark at a given time, they have 4 distanced cars and you pick up the box from a table outside when they call your name. They are on a non profit basis so the landlord is working for the good of the village he's a good man and we'll always be grateful for how much it helped us in those early days. We'll have to see how the supermarket slots go and might need to use his boxes again but I'd rather leave them for other folks if I possibly can. Somehow crisis moments bring out good in unsuspected areas though I could wish we didn't need it again.11

Think we figured out the boiler problem. DP took the cover off and checked the internal fuses that go into the circuit board. One was blown, so we've ordered a replacement from Amazon. Hopefully that will have saved us an expensive callout.

On Christmas eve we woke up to find we had no electricity. DH tested the sockets and narrowed the problem down to the boiler. He disconnected that socket so at least we had electricity but no central heating. It turned out to be a problem with the pump so needed a gas engineer in the end. We did get it fixed at about 10 p.m that night!6
