Very interesting topics here. I am near a market town where a lot of city commuters live. They've had market there in the square from the year dot, used to be local produce and livestock but now it's certainly 'artisan' with the prices to match. I'm lucky to have 4 major supermarkets within a mile. I shop at all of them at various times but do supplement with meats from a local farm butchers shop cos they'll cut it the way I want. There's also a couple of farm produce stores, all local stuff, not the cheapest but lovely quality. At various times one of the farm shops has trays of eggs on a bogof, they've 3000+ free range birds who lay all the time so now and again I'll share with someone else when they're available. TBH I think I've the best of both worlds. I grow more fruit than veg and always pass on to the neighbours the surpluses.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle9

I can’t find the person who mentioned cauliflower – I’m with you on that one! The cauliflowers I buy from the greengrocers are huge, heavy and white with lovely tasting, edible leaves. The ones I see in the supermarket are shrunken and yellowish with damaged leaves. They smell and taste old and eggy very quickly especially when cooked.I’d rather pay extra from the green grocer but often the SM is more convenient especially when you factor in delivery costs9

We've more supermarkets than is reasonable, so the market (mismanaged to boot) has become a largely artisanal snack base with a a butcher haberdasher & sweet stall hanging on by their teeth. Down the road, another small town's market is much busier, outdoors & the whistling fresh breezes keep covid at bay and shoppers swift Seems daft to need to drive 10 miles to get decent local fruit & veg but the local council are not really in touch with the marketfolk.
I bought cheese cultures last year & now just need to get raw milk & nerve together before I try to grow my own Horace. I'm thinking something much simpler & very much less shrewd to start with...11 -
I thought it was just us who had a totally mismanaged market in our nearest town, with a thriving, and award winning one nearby! Apparently our local councils have read the same book.

The market where I live has gone the same route - the Market Hall and 1/3 of the remaining space is taken up with artisanal fast food - I had a look (about a year ago I think) to get something nice for lunch, but I balked at paying over £8 for a small bacon sandwich or £6 for a small bowl of porridge, especially as none of them had any allergen information and the bored, rude teenager I asked didn't really endear the experience to me. Shame, there used to be a really good fancy dress stall, and an amazingly well-stocked haberdashers in there.2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

Came late to the party - was going to say Horace the Lancre Blue. Not being a fan of blue cheese, I see where the blessed Sir T (mayherestinpeace) was coming from. I think I've met Horace!

We have the first Tesco delivery coming on Friday since the pre Christmas one on the 20th December and I'm waiting to see how many things are either missing or substituted. Anyone had a delivery since Brexit was actually a fact? was it as normal or are there the anticipated gaps in supply?5

No gaps in supplies from my parent's Tesco shop yesterday7

I had a normal delivery from Ocado on Sunday. However today when going to the website to place another order, after Boris's announcement of a further lockdown, back had come the queue to login!
