A truly sad indictment of the times we live in BUT allegedly we live in a democracy that upholds freedom of speech and that MUST be inclusive no matter what our personal take is. Here on MSE we have a huge advantage over real life insofar as we have the IGNORE facility which can be used so as not to have to read the words of trolls and that makes life vastly less upsetting whilst leaving you free to express your own views. We are living in difficult times and these lead to extremes of opinion and outspoken comment when feelings are running as high as they are over political matters in the UK today.0

I don't use the ignore button. I like to read all comments, however extreme or amusing they might be as I like to know what I'm up against!
Prepping wise, just a constant turnaround of using and restocking here to make sure everything is ok to use.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
I occasionally unignore one or two of the people on my list if I see a quote on another persons post and read, then replace them on the ignore list but there are some seriously deeply unpleasant people posting who are unrestrained in the arrogance and vitriolic hatred they are determined to inflict on ordinary everyday posters who happen to subscribe to a different point of view to their own. It's no use trying to explain why you feel differently they don't want counter arguments or common sense or even equality of input, they just want to trundle over anyone who has different thoughts and keep doing so as loudly and obnoxiously as they can until they have driven milder mannered folk away leaving them to crow loudly that they are in the right of it. I'd rather not waste a second of my life by reading their posts, much more appealing ways of spending time.0

The above qualifications are exactly what the Brexit party is looking for as candidates, the political classes need not apply
The following Brexit Party MEPs (all now members of the 'political elite' by virtue of the fact that they've just be elected, of course) also had a previous background in professional (sic) politics:
Alexandra Phillips
Anne Widdicombe
Claire Fox
John Tennant
Jonathan Bullock, and of course,
Nigel Farage.
The current crop of Brexit MEPs also includes three journalists, three asset managers, one privately wealthy person, a property investor, a property developer, and six people who describe themselves as businessmen/women among other occupations, including a lawyer and someone from PR.
There is also one nurse, one dentist and one doctor.Better is good enough.0 -
My attempts at planning for Brexit by growing things have hit a snag. A car boot purchase of three tomato plants "Gardeners Delight" turned out to have an undocumented codename "Neck Sedatives, Slugs have left a bare inch of stem, Total".
I am displeased.
My husband, hearing me stroll in with a distinct Headed for the Kettle pace, asked, got a short answer & a hearty guffaw...
I still have adequate stashes of Tea.0 -
Hugh FW did try to eat slugs once on his Cook on the Wild Side programmes many years ago, he just couldn't stomach them as they never stopped being slimy no matter how long they're cooked for and no matter what flavourings he put with them they still tasted of slug! so sad about your tomato plants but at this time of year anyone who grows from seed will have many surpluses of plant and if you keep an eye open for garden gate sales as you drive around you're bound to find some more and slug pellets are £1.99 a tub in Wilkos.0

I was on my allotment briefly this afto (it was raining) as had been away for 6 days playing wiv my new tent.
Spuds have closed the baulks, leeks have settled and started growing since transplantation and the onions (red and white) are forming well.
Next item is to get the runner beans, currently being nursemaided on a nearby plot by a lottie pal, into their trenches. Runners are where I slip from organic gardener to chemical fiend, in respect of slug pellets among the crushed eggshells around the seedlings. They have to be planted out when the main stem is about 8 inches above ground, or the gastropods will nip them in the bud and all will be lost.
Heartily agree with Primrose's post about us having a professional political class with little or no knowledge of life as it is lived in this country by the ordinary majority. I do think some of the arrant silliness perpetrated by politicos when working on legislation would be nipped in the bud if more of them had actually lived IRL.
The daft things which get passed into law, whereupon several million adults of the non-political classes, plus the older children of same, quickly think rings around it. And, of course, having made stupid decisions such as Universal Credit which failed comprehensively at its trial locations, everyone has too much 'face' invested in the projects to put their hands up, admit they're wrong and go back to the drawing board.:(Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Why is it that politicians are totally incapable of saying "Sorry, we got that wrong. We will listen and put things right."0

The ability to admit in public that you are wrong is one which requires emotional maturity, honesty, integrity, humility and a greatness of spirit.
My conclusion is that politicos lack all of the above!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Why is it So Many People of All shapes & sizes struggle with "Sorry" [even when there isn't an insurance company in play]?
(I'm teaching Scouts rifle shooting tomorrow. I've researched, I've prepped, I've rehearsed & I'm still hoping we won't need "sorry" but I'm not taking any bets!)0
