As we're discussing politics I feel compelled to point out that:
• The Brexit-supporting Tory Party lost 1,321 council seats
• The Brexit-supporting Labour Party lost 77 council seats
• The Brexit-supporting UKIP party lost 144 council seats
But:
• The Remain-supporting LibDem Party gained 691 council seats (taking control of 10 councils)
• The Remain-supporting Green Party gained 192 seats.Better is good enough.0 -
I suspect it's not so much a case of Remain versus Leave as the fact that voters are fed up with the way the two main parties have conducted themselves, not just over Brexit but over other issues as well. I think the writing is in the wall for the old two party system, and that a more eclectic mix of political viewpoints would be a refreshing change in Westminster. One life - your life - live it!0

You forgot to factor in that in most areas a 100% Brexit party was NOT an available choice
Time will tell come 23rd May
If Ukip had enough people willing to stand, as a 100% Brexit Party each of them should have done well. As it was it couldn't even muster enough to stand in every ward where there was an election. There was a Kipper candidate in most wards here and they didn't even come second. And they lost seats all over the country.
Just to remind you - it is a 100% Brexit Party.Better is good enough.0 -
Prepping for all eventualities and not actually giving a tinkers cuss for what happens any longer only wanting an ending to it, just going to make sure that we're stocked up and have what we need to see us through a few months of possibly unrest and keep us as safe and low profile as it's possible to do. Those who want to play politics can do so with my blessing, I just want life back to normal (or what passes for it) and an ending to all the argument, points scoring and downright nastiness between the two sides of the debate and life back to being peaceful!0

I think the next couple of weeks or so could be interesting, because if we can't get our exit from the EU sorted before May 23 then we have to take part in the EU elections, something which I think most people have no enthusiasm for. The politicians had their nice little rest over Easter, now they're revving up again to try and sort the mess out. On the Andrew Marr show today it mentioned how May and Corbyn are trying to sort out a compromise arrangement (half baked customs tie until next general election) which sounds like both sides of the debate will be very annoyed if it comes to fruition. We shall see. In the meantime, troops, revert to prepping arrangements! This month could be a rollercoaster ride. One life - your life - live it!0

The EU elections will be going ahead, regardless of any annoucement about a deal between May and Corbyn. The deadline has already passed when any agreement they might reach can be ratified by the Commons and the EU before 23 May.
If you think there will be trouble on 23 May now is the time to plan a strategy to cope with any disruption that might occur by disaffected voters.Better is good enough.0 -
Just checked the diary for 23rd May- work, give Littleydog her flea and worm treatment. So if there's trouble afoot I don't need to leave the house.
Just checked on more nuts, still in date but I do actually need to consume them.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Precisely the reason this thread was set up in the first place, not for politics and political views but the sheer practicality of being prepared at home for whatever the actuality of Brexit may bring, it's still an unknown, it might just happen like a puff of dandelion fluff or it might be a raging thunderstorm of an event no one knows the exact truth but it's put the idea of prepping into a few folks minds that hadn't considered doing so before it and it's galvanised us who are Preppers in the first place to look to our preparedness equipment, stocks and mindset and do a very swift update on anything that needs it.0

Have had a pause in prepping and did some testing, or more correctly, tasting, of some of my stash. Frozen veg (which I've never used before) are surprisingly good! Ditto frozen grated cheese. So happy to get in more of same. Now have the new freezer which has slightly more capacity than the old one but deeper drawers so a bit harder to see what's what quickly. Have divvied up the drawers into broad categories to make it easier. Have slowly carried on decluttering, too.
Sadly I don't think the Brexit business will be over for a very long time, no matter which way it goes. All the more reason to Keeeeeep Prepping (think Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly on Strictly... 'Keeeeeep Dancing!')0
