You can pick up a burner phone for about £15 including £10 of credit.
Every day's a school day - I'd got this far without ever hearing that expression! I thought you might have been referring to one of those Samsung Galaxy Note 7s from a couple of years ago.... :)

Not sure what you're saying is the problem. They ask for a mobile number and you don't have one? Have you tried entering your landline instead?

(btw they've never, iirc, contacted me by phone at all, mobile or landline, so haven't used any number they have for me)

Yep, I think they've got a check that the entered mobile number is in a valid format for mobiles, so a landline number gives an error.

I guess they want to reserve the right to use SMS authentication at some stage - perhaps when getting your money back out. You can pick up a burner phone for about £15 including £10 of credit. Or if you have a trusted family member or friend with a mobile, perhaps they would oblige.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Lol, I learnt what a burner phone was from watching Hunted on Channel 4,

Application for an account declined (not Raisin, but the account within it - tried two providers).

No idea what the issue is, never been declined for a savings product before?!

I believe the expression comes from the USA where drug dealers and police use it to describe pre-paid mobile phones which don't require any customer registration and can be thrown away when the credit is used up, so they cannot be tapped.

It's amazing what you learn from The Wire.

That's where I first heard of it.

    Needed subtitles though :rotfl:

So did I at times! After the first series I kind of got tuned in to the accent and managed without, although with the occasional rewinding to listen again. Absolutely brilliant series though.

I got denied too initially - turns out my middle name is used to reference check things... (they did warn me that it might be a middle name issue) - added that in, reapplied and all good
