Hi there. Can't believe how many pages I had to catch up on I didn't log on for 1 day & it goes mad.

Anyway well done everyone this week. i too would like to see the chart going for december I need the motivation. The secret santa sounds good fun too.

Some good news & some bad news today. Good news first Tesco's finally phoned this morning offering me checkouts saturday 9.30-6.30 & sun 10-4.30 till xmas got to go at 10.00am tomorrow for induction then first shift on sunday bang goes the plan to go xmas shopping on sunday. Can't go now till monday week cos that's my first completely free day.

Bad news is that we had to have my hubby's dog put to sleep this afternoon. He lived at hubby's mum's sinced we moved in together because he wasn't house trained and we both worked full time and he would be stuck out in a small garden with lots of noise and would bark all the time so we left him there & went over 4 nights a week to walk him & feed him & his mum looked after him the rest of the time. He was very old (nearly 14) and deteriorated over the past few weeks & got to the stage he couldn't get up out of his kennel to go for a walk & had to have his food bowl put right next to his head so he could eat. It wasn't fair to keep him alive & suffering. My hubby has had him since he was 12 weeks old so although he was expecting it he's really upset. My DD didn't really understand - she knows that when we go to grandma's that buster won't be there anymore because he's been poorly & has gone to heaven but skippy (MiL's dog) will still be there.

Not seen OH since he came back from his mum's cos I was at a sure start group & he went straight to work & won't be back till about 11ish tonight not looking forward to it but will give him a big hug.

bye for now DD's went to bed a little while ago & is still screaming the place down & i'm starving so better go sort the little monster out first.
Life is like a box of chocs ..... i've got a soft centre but I ate the whole box.

Awww what a lovely post Suggs :)

Well done on 1000 posts - heres to the next 1000
I agree - thank you for mentioning me in so illustrious a list! I am hardly ever on here - just pop on now and then, before hiding when I fall off the wagon yet again. Have still not climbed back on it yet so tonight was my first look on here in about 2 weeks!

  • Ok, so I take it you want the chart to go on through December then :D It's efrieze's turn to do the chart in December so I guess it's up to her how she manages it.

I haven't posted on in ages cos OH has been obsessed with playing COD4

emmalis - I'm sorry to hear about your OH's dog. I can understand how hard it must be for him. My wee dog is only 3 but I had thought about giving her away for a time when I couldn't cope with all of the responsibilities I had earlier in the year but I burst into tears every time I thought seriously about it - she's my infertility dog and my first baby (even though I now have DS). I couldn't part with her. What you did was kinder in the long run.

suggs - congratulations on 1000 posts:eek: . I'm quite a long way away from there but I hope my acheivements match yours when I get there. Thanks for being here for all of us and being so supportive. It's great to have a male input into the thread.

Petrichor - 6jahct0.gifI didn't get the chance to read your post before you edited it, but perhaps you should have let it stay. Judging by Sugg's and everyone else's replys I don't think that you're feeling anything different than anyone else. We're all panicking about not backtracking over the christmas period and each of us will end up managing it in our own different ways. I personally plan to count my points right up until Christmas day, then I'm taking a day or two off. Then back on the wagon again. New Year's isn't such a big deal for me and I'm sure I can deal with it within my points allowance. A detox day between Christmas and New Year sounds like a good idea too.

As for falling off the wagon, we all do for a time. I don't know anyone (skinny or not) who doesn't put on weight at this time of year. Just go back to "normal" healthy eating. We have all seen from yours/Victory's and Sugg's posts that maintain is much more difficult than actually losing the weight. (don't think I haven't notice how much weight you've lost since reaching "goal") Anyway, I think you need one of these:

    8g6b28n.gif
I've lots more to say but DS is demanding my attention. Hopefully, I'll get back later.
Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.
Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.

Hello everyone! I know I said I wouldn't log on over the weekend but I miss you!:D I'm not enjoying having this time off, my stomach is very upset and I just don't want to blow what I have managed to achieve so far. So it's Hour 1 for me, KPC stylee! It's not going to be easy but I will just do the best I can in the circumstances.

As for the chart, I would really love it to stay for December and echo what others have said that this is when we need it most. I think it is completely natural to be worried about the festive period - loads of food around that wouldn't normally be, such a massive focus on food, perhaps not being at home and therefore 'in control' of the food prep, and all for such an extended period of time (it gets longer each year I reckon); of course we're uptight about it! But it's okay, really. The best thing I believe is to make a plan beforehand (as I think missyg said) about how you want to approach Christmas. This will be completely individual for each of us, just make sure it is a SMART plan ie achieveable and realistic. I cannot share my own with you yet as I am still working out the best way to approach several days with my mum and a mountain of food :D but I will definitely make one. The thing is, (almost) everything is a choice in life, and so is this - just be kind to yourself and do what is right for you.

Grannynise, I can completely relate to the compliments thing, I have been the same most of my life. I feel like missg that it is sad and I hope that we, and the many others out there, can learn to accept compliments gracefully (it's one of the things I have been working on). Missy's comment really hit home - I would hate to think that others didn't accept the compliments that I give, which are always genuinely meant. I try to give them as often as I think them as I believe it's really important.

Suggs, congratulations on the 1000 mark, that's brilliant! Thank you for spending so much of that time here with us, I for one love having you on here as a friend and an inspiration.

I'm up for the secret Santa too! Oops, gotta go, no time to finish...

Emmalis, congratulations of the job, that's ace! And I was really sorry to hear about your husband's dog, it is heartbreaking. I had my dog since I was six and my dad had her put down while I was away on holiday for the same reasons, so I never had a chance to say goodbye; very sad. I still miss her and so am sending your hubby a big hug xx

People seem to be worrying about xmas so I will quote last years mag I bought entitled 'Enjoy xmas treats-without piling on the pounds'

It would take a saint to stick to a low fat diet on xmas day,so here's a guide to indulging a little without overdoing it.....

Tip 1. Don't tempt yourself...be honest-can you walk past a bowl of nuts and not be tempted to take a handful? It's the constant grazing that does the harm. Buy colourful fruits like satsumas and cranberries, or nuts in their shells, they take longer to crack so you will eat less. Or better still do not buy them.

Tip 2. First things first-cutting out breakfast is a mistake. You'll be starving by mid morning and end up snacking. Have a healthy breakfast of fresh fruit and yogurt, toast and OJ will see you through.

Tip3. Cheers- alcohol has as many calories per gram as fat. Avoid alcopops loaded with calories. Mix white wine with soda and avoid creamy cocktails. Only have a small measure of spirits with low cal lemonade.

Tip 4. Skin your turkey. Choose breast white rather than dark (140 cals and 1.8g of fat compared to 160 cals and 5.9g fat for a 90g serving) Remove skin-a 15g helping will add 90cals and 6g fat to your meal. Remember bigger potatoes absorb less fat.

Tip 5. Have your cake and eat it! Fruit cake is high in fibre so it's not all bad, take off the marzipan and icicing saving 60 cals and 1.5g fat, have just a small piece of xmas pud, 100g contains 330cals and 11.8g fat. Have low fat custard instead of cream.

Tip 6. Dip in, don't have the creamy ones, go for salsa, humous or make your own with low fat yogurt, mint and cucumber, swap crisps and tortilla chips for raw veg and bread sticks.

Tip 7. Fill up with veg. These are high in fibre and will filo you up, pick colouful ones like red cabbage and swede, don't add butter, just 1 tsp is 35 cals and 4.1g fat.

Tip 8. Sweet talk, always buy the family a tin to share? The fact that a 2 kg one contains a whooping 10,000 cals!! and 500g fat should make you stop and think. Try fruit gums (172 cals for 100g) turkish delight (295 clas) and boiled sweets (327 cals)

Tip 9. Party games, eat before attending any party as in a light snack so you do not feel so drawn to the buffet, circulate, do not hover around the food, fill your plate up once and move on, move away from the food.

Tip 10. Another mince pie? Make your own with filo pastry, there's just 2.7g in filo compared to 29.1g in shortcrust, slash the cals in the filling by adding stewed apple, at the supermarket go for shallow filled pies or open tarts.

    Hpe that helps someone:D

What a horeendous post we have had today:eek: one brown envelope said the child tax credit office had over paid us £84.55p and they want it back, the other brown envelope said that we needed to givethe gas and electricity board a reading rather than them keep estimating it and so we did.. we owe them from the last 18 months of not paying the proper amount £545:eek: so now in Jan they are going to double our monthly direct debit to pay for it over the next year and on Monday we need to send a cheque off to the child tax people:eek: crumbs that was a shock, at least the gas people are going to take it out monthly and don't expect all the money now:D

Our xmas do got cancelled today, pork medallion or steak and ale pie:cool: no one was keen so it is not happening, today I am taking the day off, I woke up needing fried bread so had that but hated it which I am pleased about and ended bining most of it which would never have happened before as my H said 'crumbs that so used to be your absolute favourite and all you want to do now is brush your teeth to get rid of the fatty taste':rotfl: def gone off that for sure, don't need it, don't want it again:D lunch was lots of turkey meat from the deli and bread, enjoyed that, had much more than I usually do but enjoyed the freedom, a few plain digestive biscuits this afternoon and this evening is belly pork roasties and gravy.

I get to the point when I can't go on anymore with what I eat and yearn for the things that are supposed to be off the menu and they become all I think about, when I have them like the breakfast this morning they end up being not as I expected them to be and not as tasty, needed, nice and prefer what I usually have which is porridge:D

I am lucky in a way, over eating etc like I have said before being diabetic, not that it is pleasant but I am heavily dictated by my blood sugar numbers, if Igo mad my numbers shoot up and I feel ill, sick, my back hurts, my bones hurt, my mouth dries out, it is not nice and it makes you wonder why bother so I don't 99.9% of the time because I know I am going to feel lousy as my insulin does not take to change, I can increase the dose but I do prefer the healthy eating I feel better, more energetic and happier , not so tired, lethargic, bloated, gassy, burpy:D

Sometimes with me it is more I don't want to be feeling hungry and want food more of it, not necessarily bad food but more I am full up food, sometimes the hunger is hard to bare.

I had 4 quality streets yesterday and could not sleep the entire night because my numbers had gone up to 24.5 (should be 4/7/8/9 they are all good) my mouth was so dry my tongue had stuck itself down:rotfl: :rotfl: so reading that you would ask yourself if you know you are going to be feeling that bad why ever bother? Well sometimes it is needed to know that it truly is that awful and go back to the hot water and lemon and all the fresh fruit veg and porridges to realise that is the best place to be, healthy, slim and wise and not yearn for the lost life of eating for England:D
