I'm up for Secret Santa too - budget permitting.

Beanielou- did the shop make a record of your fall, seems like they failed in their duty of care & Health & safety.

Can I sign up for the Secret Santa too please?

Hope you weren't too badly hurt Beanielou and are on the mend soon. I hope the shop where it took place looked after you properly.

Congratulations Emmalis on the job. Hope the induction went well today.

Bad news about your post today Victory especially at this time of year.

I will do my weigh in on Monday morning but might have to step off of the wagon at the next stop for the next week.

It is my two son's birthdays on Monday (one is 18 and the other 15) so it will be a bit difficult food wise for a few days. Two birthday cakes (and I'm sure both will be shouting at the top of their voices "eat me"), and there is normally a a constant stream of aunties, godparents, friends, etc. - probably more so as it is the older ones 18th) and the "celebrations" will go on for days. We will need to go out for two celebration meals (due to different groups of friends and their different age groups) but I'll try and send each home with a bigger chunk of birthday cake than normal and try to make healthier choices or sacrifices elsewhere.

But hey ho - it is only once a year - so I am going to enjoy their day just as much as they are and I can start day one next week (hopefully).
  • beanileou - sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you're feeling better soon. Any fall is a shock to the system at any age, but worse when you're not 100% anyway.

Anic - the idea of sending huge wadges of birthday cake away with the celebrants is a brilliant idea. One I made use of when my DS was 2 at the end of last month. My OH and Mum were saying "there'll be nothing left for you2" which was exactly my plan!

victory - I'm sorry to hear about your bills. We had something like that happen with our electricity for a few years. We pay by direct debit and they kept reducing the monthly payment until we were about £100 or more in the red. This year, when NIE tried to bring down our monthly payment we contacted them and kept it the same. So far, we're exactly right on the payments! Everyone in England, Scotland and Wales should thank their lucky stars that they have choices in their energy providers. We only have one electricity company and as far as I understand it, we're unlikely to get another one for some time to come as a previous government over 20 years ago sold out the consumer and signed an exclusive deal!

I can understand about how your tastes have changed. And how your body reacts to sugar and bad stuff is a good thing in a way. It teaches you by negative reinforcement. I LOVE turnips but with my IBS it's just not worth eating it. I haven't knowingly ate turnip in about 12 years. (although one was slipped in a meal on my honeymoon - that was a day wasted!).

bails I hope the rest of day turned out easier for you. I know what it's like to struggle and I can't really give much advice because every day I'm at home all day I struggle. Some days I win, some days I lose. The only difference is, I can make it up when I'm back at work during the week.
Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.
Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.
  • Did a long post and have lost it! So instead of replying individually i'll just say sorry to read some people are having hard time at the moment, be it bills, falls, or weight! Hope it gets better soon for you.

Suggs well done on 1000 posts heres to the next 1000:beer: I'd love to do a secret santa too please.

I put on half a pound last week but have lost 1lb this week and have finally lost 7lbs and got my half stone award! Feel quite good but clinging on with my fingernails at the moment, I think its with xmas round the corner - thinking about slacking, not good!

Brighton Belle, its lovely of you to offer to take over for xmas, I just hope you enjoy the holidays in your own way.

Take care all and keep in there!
If you don't have something nice to say don't bother saying anything at all.
  • hello all,
so shall I rorganise the secret santa then?:D
So far I have on the list:
    suggs
    kpc
    bargain babe
    retired lady
    beanie
    bails
    anic
    julegr
    me (BB)
PLEASE POST OR PM TO BE ADDED TO THE LIST :j

How would this differ from the swapboxes: one item only for a fixed sum or what? Would £4 or £5 be too much - I know money is tight for some at this time of year so give me feedback - pm me if you like. You'll need to pm me your names and addresses, say by Mon 3rd December.
    How does that sound?

  • loads of posts to reply too: I'm sure I am going to miss some out:
efreize, how brilliant you are so close to the 100lb club: what a reward for your australia trip:T
And julegr - 40lbs, amazing. Good luck with the exam Suggs - hope the extra days benefit. Raphael, glad you are feeling better, hope the return to work went ok and you are back focusssing on your excellent eating plan. Well done emma on the job: hope the induction went well.
Victory - something similar happened to my bills last year, when I was too ill for 6 month to bother to realise they were constantly working on an estimate and never gave a reading. Whacked my ddm up to over £100 a month,(partly as a mis-estimmate of what they thought I would use in the coming year but I rang them and they brought it down to a more manageable amount. Now I give a phone reading every quarter and have caught up.
Grannynise - I understand about the compliments thing. I had to train myself just to say thank you at first and not verbally push it away, and slowly the comps sank in more so now it is far easier to actually believe them. I enjoy giving them now too as i realise how nice they are to receive, be it about my choice of jewlery or something general about my personality. So start small with just the 'thanks' and maybe in time belief in them will grow for you too. (Did you see Stewart on tv yesterday :D:D . Counting down to new Time team series in Jan:j )
Bails - that was great about the mirror experience. I'm beginning to feel the same myself and I'm not uber slim, but my excess chinage is going and I can't stop checking the mirror to enjoy seeing that :rotfl: . I really do look 'ok' now to me. Having said that, I seem to be slipping off the wagon a bit this week guys - nothing drastic, but going a little off plan and I've put a mid week 1lb, having not lost anything in Nov yet. I think it's the pain and tiredness with this back issue so I've wanted a little more comfort food: I've found over the last 6 months that I need to generally not have carbs at the same time as protein in an evening meal to lose weight (have plenty of carbs at other times) and this week i've been having rice and potatoes with my meat and veg and it is showing on the scales. Must nip this in the bud, but feels easier said than done at the mo.

  • lRaphael, glad you are feeling better, hope the return to work went ok and you are back focusssing on your excellent eating plan.

Thanks BB, work was ok, just very slow and boring (no-one wanted a taxi!).

Theres also been a positive for being ill, during my sick days when I didn't have an appetite my stomach has shrunk and my triggers seem to have been re-set.

The last couple of days I've only eaten when I was hungry, and not when I thought I should eat, and I get full really quickly.
Yesterday I had cheese on toast for breakfast before work (about 4am) then a sarnie for my break at 11, then I wasn't hungry until very late in the evening. I'm still full from it now! I did have a very small slice of cake today for elevenses (very nice it was too!)

Hopefully I won't slip back into the bad habits and keep listening to my body, cos it knows best!

That is apositive side affect  . Definitely keep listening away! It's so easy to eat when we're supposed to rather than when we are hungary. Perhaps it is a little easier for folks like you and me without a family to cater for (Mr bb gets to eat a meal when I'm hungry rather than a preset time:rotfl: ). And of course having the cake is fine isn't it - everything in moderation. I remember you asked a few weeks ago about gravy and whether then was a less fat version than the gravy you liked. I felt at the time and forgot to say I think that as you seemed to absolutely love your "meal swimming in thick gravy", I should carry on having it: If it is something you love, keep it, because this is about changed eating habbits for life, not being deprived and when focussed, you seemed to be losing weight ok.
I didn't know you were a taxi driver - does that mean you go all over PLymouth. My mums from plymouth, so as a child I was there a lot and I rmemebr the bombed out spaces between building being there for years.-I'm in the middle of typing up her 'memoires' she has written for the family. She lived on the hoe and was there throughout the blitz - all very dramatic. The family I have left there live at Crown hill and Torpoint and did live on Mutley Plain. I would love to have grown up in Plymo

  • Hi Peeps

Like some of you, I've just lost a long post  (can only blame myself :o ) so you'll have the condensed version :D ...

...Thank you for all the helpful posts about Christmas :T . I was feeling a tad down when I originally posted my fears on Friday, but after I'd shared them with you I felt more positive a bit later, so decided to delete it (but not quickly enough for some;)). I saved it, intending to word it in a more coherent way but there's no need now. Suffice it to say that I'm getting very obsessive about what I eat. It's good to know that whatever happens there will always be helpful kind words here :j :j ...

    ...

... missyg you made me realise that it was through being strong willed throughout the year that made me stick to my plan and achieve my goal, so I shall just have to harness it to get me through :j ...

...emmalis I was quite dewy eyed when I read about Buster 6jojifm.gif, I know what it's like. However I hope that your first day at Tesco went okay...

...beanielou I hope that you're feeling better today, what an awful thing to happen, but remember the advertisement 'Where there's a blame, there's a claim' ;) ...

I'm pleased you did katyk :j that's the purpose of this thread. We learn more from those who struggle and still go on to succeed. The secret is not to give in. Even if you aren't back on the wagon doesn't mean that you have to stay away, it's not written in blood that you have to lose weight all of the time. That goes for you too Lois, you have a wealth of knowledge and noone expects you to be perfect all the time, same too katiepc although I'm pleased to see your name down for the secret santa...

    xxxx
I wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latter :p but my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!
