Brilliant. That will be something to give you a whole new focus. Break it down into smaller amounts: 2 lbs a week for 6 months is 56lbs. That should be very do able without feeling you've got to deprive yourself of anything nice to eat: you are not going to be dieting, you are going to be changing to healthy eating habits and smaller portions and slowly build up the exercise.
Any luck with the xmas do outfit?

Thanks. Yes very do-able and can't wait. There's not much I've given up completely doing SW and I love cooking from scratch and trying new receipes!

I'm going shopping tonight to see what I can pick up (inc that supportive underwear!) as the do's on Friday! I'm feeling better about things already and very hopeful! :T

...Whilst I was looking for the above I found this ideal body weight calculator Although it takes into account your frame size, it does say that you should take it with a pinch of salt :D but I was wondering what any of you think to it's "accuracy".
Here's a more accurate way to determine your frame size (some of you could just have extra long fingers) :-

Determining frame size: To determine the body frame size, measure the wrist with a tape measure and use the following chart to determine whether the person is small, medium, or large boned.

I just read your post Petrichor and measured my wrist which makes me small framed and my ideal weight to be a stone lighter than I was recommended to aim for. I think if I got down to their recommended weight I would look a bit haggard. It may depend on your age too, I was 8st when 25 years old but it wouldn't suit me now.

I've seen three different ways of determining frame size now based on wrist measurement and guess what - I come out as a different one for each of the three :rotfl:

Is it really possible to give an accurate frame assessment on just wrist size? According to one of the methods I could be large-framed but I would say I'm medium at the most, I have very narrow shoulders, back and hips.

Anyway, the ideal weights look OK to me. I'm even underweight for one of them! (First time I've been underweight for anything!)

Does anyone know how I can reliably calculate my body fat percentage?
  • So sorry to hear about your WW leader delly *HUGS* What a horrible shock.

    Puts my moans in perspective.

Stayed the same this week, Im really not happy. This past month has been rubbish, but Im still sticking ridgidly to my diet. Im going to have a real go at doing my WW DVD this week and see if that helps.

My current weight loss rate is just too slow!

Starlight - sorry to hear you're not really happy, but good to hear you are sticking with it! Your loss to date is so amazing, just think how much healthier you are overall and how much better you must look for it! Hope that puts a smile on your face :D

My writs are really small, its pants when it comes to bracelets because i always need them altering! But then my ankles in my opinion look quite big. My top half is all small, hips downwards its a very different matter.

Perhaps you can be half small framed and half large? :j

Hi everyone, and welcome to Vixarooni and krayzechick!

Lots to catch up on, so in no particular order -

Ajax, I'm glad the meal went well and was so sorry to hear about Mrs A's leg - I'm sure you'll do a great job of looking after her and helping her recover slowly. Big hug to you both.

Team '21', I think you can be very proud of yourselves for taking control and looking after your bodies now. It's all too easy when you're young to think 'sod it' so sorting things out now will stand you in very good stead for the long-term. There's nowt to be ashamed of in that.

As for how to stop the yo-yo effect, this isn't easy and lots of people go through the same thing. Keeping a food diary is one way to be really honest about what you are eating, perhaps pick up on patterns e.g. always snacking at 4pm which you can then change/prepare for. Remember to put positives in your diary too, it's not meant to be something to beat yourself up with! If you walk to the shops or get off the bus early or get on your stepper etc, then put it in. When I've done a diary in the past, I've used a different colour to highlight my exercise (but then I'm a stationery geek!:D). This also helps you see where you're at exercise wise and gives you a starting point to increase from. There's lots of other things you can do, which I can add later, I'm just aware I have lots of peeps to catch up with. Good luck! Oh yeah, and eating at home is difficult - are you in a position to have a chat with the person cooking to make it lower-fat? (this doesn't mean a whole new way of eating, can just be a few substitutes). A smaller plate is a really good way of regulating your portion size, putting your cutlery down between each mouthful helps a lot too.

    Missyg,
I am over the moon for you! :T It's a scary thing to go against your instinct/habits and I am so pleased that you've seen a positive result. 1/4 pound IS a real achievement and you are right to feel happy with yourself. As for body fat percentage, the only truly accurate way to measure it requires remortgaging your house :D The best affordable alternatives are electronic pads (how's that for technical jargon :D) and then calipers in my opinion. Calipers are subject to human error but are the most common way of measuring it in gyms and stuff. BF scales do give you an indication but several things can affect the result e.g. where you are in your cycle, how dehydrated you are. So as with everything else, a BF measurement is usually only loosely accurate.

Starlight, sorry to hear you're struggling, can you put your finger on why? You have lost a lot of weight, could it be a temprary plateau? Perhaps, go back to basics and see if you can find what might be causing it? Hope you see a shift soon, big hug in the meantime.

Skintcatt, what a fantastic incentive! Take it steady as BB says, and think how happy you'll be when you make it to NY!

Delly, sorry to hear about your WW leader, what a shock. It certainly keeps everything in perspective for us all.

Sorry guys, I'm sure there was more to say but have run out of steam. Suggs, hope you had a lovely weekend, hi to everyone else and I'll be back again later xx

    [quote=petrichor;7026597]Didn't that make Alphonse jealous?

:rotfl: :rotfl: You're on the ball today Bb :rotfl: :rotfl: Alphonse is having a major sulking fit because of this, so I've had to put a Christmas tree in his place :rotfl: :rotfl: ...

...What a lovely incentive Skinty, get it done before he changes his mind :j I wish MrP would say things like that to me (the miserable git:rotfl: )...

...I'm pleased that some of you have given opinions of the frame size thing and ideal weights, it just made me laugh last Friday when I was looking a stacks of different web sites about the topic. I can't imagine anyone having a large wrist. It really does just boil down to what suits each individual...

    xxxx
I wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latter :p but my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!
