Oh dear! You and me both, my ds3 started complaining of a sore throat, and by 11pm was back downstairs and I was trying to find drugs, but dh has necked them all. Managed to find 2 paracetamol in the wash bag inside his suitcase, eventually!

So boy was off school today and coughing too. I remembered to call the school at gone 12.00, but they were fine with it as long as they were told. They are quite nice in the office, not snotty at all.

Can't stay up much longer on sub 3 hours sleep.

I am surprised by the number of people who think Bojo is going to invest heavily in the NE because it suddenly went blue. Madness.

It will take a week or two for them to decide what they are really going to do, so probably nothing much will change or be set up this side of 2020. But someone is going to have to hold him accountable, and hold his feet to the fire over this.

And like everyone else is telling you, take care of you right now. Getting well again is not lazy.

  • CCL, I am sending love and telling you as a follow teacher not to go near school. Just give your self a break, kids will be barmy, and for Monday and Tuesday at least there will be lessons and they will be hell ;) Don't get me wrong, I do honestly love my job but you need to be 110% for it to be enjoyable.

Please please look after yourself. IT sucks to be ill, properly hospital ill and must be so frustrating but you only have the one body and it needs rest. And fluids.

    Enormous hugs XXXXXXXXXX
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • Thanks people - I feel less alone on here seeing so many people thinking the same things as me. It just makes me wonder where all the fools are? Thankfully I don't seem to be surrounded by too many of them, which means I'm in good company.
Still in pain today - still. I know I'm not meant to take co-codamol for more than 3 days but I'm on day 4. I must also be losing some weight by now (not that I've checked). I got up this morning and finally put some laundry in and some rubbish and recycling out. When I'd washed the dishes I was tired again so had an hour's nap on the sofa. Then I finally got round to bottling my gin for Christmas and getting ingredients out for making a few Christmas bits (cookies foxgloves, and rocky road) but I haven't gotten round to doing anything with it yet. May be just about ready for another nap if I need it.
I am still hoping to go back to school next week but I know I'm still not ready for it today. Surely there has to be some real improvement soon. I cannot be like this for ever??? You're right about school being insane next week Buffy. We finish Friday lunchtime and lessons are going on until Friday 11am so we are doing literally no fun stuff at all. I do want to see if I can get back in - I might discuss with the Head and my Head of department, just teaching my triple classes if possible - or whether we can forgive me not being up and on my feet, marking books all lesson. I don't know if the kids are going to be unbearable in triple. Plus I'm meant to be taking kids out to a Christmas university lecture on Wednesday. Anyway, it is what it is and I will just have to see if I'm well enough.
  • Sorry to read that you are still in pain. Is it worth ringing 111 to get further advice? Depending on how you feel tomorrow, can you rest Mon & Tues to gear yourself up for Wednesday and beyond?

If you are in pain, and putting the bin out wipes you out, you are not to go into work.

If you are still in pain after day 4 and on strong painkillers and not feeling much more like doing the can-can on the kitchen worktop, you need to see a dr on Monday morning, one of those - if you present before 10 you will be seen before 12 - affairs they do so well. If you don't, there will be no way you are even fit to be sniffing a gin at Xmas! You might even need a different anti-biotic.

If it were one of the kids, would you have been back at the drs by now asking for something else? If the answer is yes, then get thee to the surgery. Absolutely no offence meant or intended, but if you are overweight, they might just need to tweak the dosage, or something ridiculously simple.

I really don't want you to be ill over Xmas.

That lecture on Wednesday does sound fab though. Is that the one where you lost a child last year? or was it a left behind phone? The stuff of school legend!

That's the one f0xh0les. He'd left his phone behind, so I took him back to get it and the other 19 got on the Metro with my first aider and went back to school. Needless to say it will be different this year for a couple of reasons - different kids (34 this year), different first aider (learned my lesson) and also, the lecture finishes at 3pm and if I have a box ticked on the permission form then the kids are free to make their own way home as school would be finished anyway - lots of them want to stay on in Newcastle as it's the week before Christmas. I'm hoping it will be just me and my first aider heading back to school for the 'wellbeing' meeting and then the countdown begins.
I feel like I've had a bit of a breakthrough this afternoon. I didn't nap again, but rang 111 and asked for painkiller advice. They asked if I'd been taking ibuprofen and I said I'd preferred not to as it's not recommended for kidney problems, but the nurse there said that if the doctor had said I should then I should. Well that seems to do the trick - pain goes when I take it - no need for co-codamol at all :D And I didn't need to nap again this afternoon - I got off my bum and cooked biscuits and made rocky road so the Christmas baking is just about done. All needs boxing and wrapping nicely but maybe I'll get that done tomorrow. I also managed scrambled egg on toast for dinner, which is the most I've managed in a meal since Tuesday lunchtime. I expect tomorrow will tell me the truth when I wake up.
Also had a lovely surprise from a friend of mine - a hand made and hand delivered crochet project diary for the year ahead. We've already agreed to do some projects together and she's put a spreadsheet together, printed patterns and put them all together in a file for me - it's amazing. It's really cheered me up (as has not being in pain for the afternoon).
I almost feel like my old self, albeit an even more tired version than usual if that's possible. I'm going to have another early night and hopefully wake up ready to try tutoring tomorrow. I promise all of you though that I will make sure I don't do more than I can manage. It's just such a relief to finally feel a bit better.

Just delurking to say I am glad you are feeling a little better BUT dont even think of school tomorrow you need to rest and build up your strength before facing a class of unruly teenagers. (even if they are not normally unruly Christmas excitement will no doubt be bubbling)

If the ibuprofen is working where the pain killers didn't, then your kidney is an inflamed screaming bundle of nerves. Ibuprofen - anti- inflammatory - co-codamol - blocks pain receptors to the brain/ CNS- you know this Dr CCL. Don't make any hasty decisions. If you are feeling more fa-la-la-la-la this morning, and think you can manage a bit of light tutoring, then see if it wipes you out completely.

Keep drinking, use hot water bottles, set an alarm for you ib's if they are working this well with the anti'bs. Don't even think about changing a tyre. Can't believe that was a week ago! Where did that go?
So I will stop being bossy now, and tell you how glad I am you are feeling more human.

But don't make any decisions about Monday yet.
