  • Well it's lovely to think that I'm done for the day and I can put my feet up and relax with a drink in my hand. I'm trying to decide if an afternoon in front of Christmas films on the telly wrapping presents and getting drunk is wise. I'm always wary of drinking in the house at any time (thanks to my ex) but daytime drinking feels doubly naughty. I don't need to do anything else. My children are fed, we're all warm and festivities should commence. I'll see how I feel in half an hour once I've finished catching up on here. I like a drink now and again and I have some good cocktail stuff in the kitchen.
I was rudely awoken at just before 6am by one badly behaved kitty this morning who just wouldn't wait a moment longer for food. Well, she did because I put her out while I pulled myself round and made a cuppa - then they got fed. Wrapped some presents up then did a bit of crochet before heading out with dd so that I could get my eyebrows and lashes done and she was getting holiday nails done. It took over 2 hours but they do look amazing - bought for Christmas for her.
Came home via bestie's house to drop off presents. She has family visiting over Christmas so I won't see her until twixmas (when we finally get a night out) but it was nice for a quick hello.
Now I'm home with less than a dozen presents to finish wrapping and sorting through - maybe they can wait until tomorrow.

  • Well yesterday afternoon didn't exactly go according to plan. I had one glass of bucks fizz then flaked out on the sofa. The next thing I knew 3 hours had passed and it was evening. Ah well - I must have needed it. So I didn't drink all afternoon, watch any Christmas films or do any present wrapping. So the present wrapping at least is on the list for this afternoon.
I also need to go out and collect my Christmas food order - placed ages ago online. I rarely make Christmas dinner, but I am this year. So I've planned and ordered carefully for the 2 weeks we're off - hoping to cook once and eat many, many meals from it. :rotfl:
I slept until 8 this morning so I must have needed sleep (even more) - still pulling myself round but I have nothing planned other than my food collection today. So hopefully I will be able to report tomorrow that all wrapping is done and the fridge and freezer are full and that Christmas can officially commence - I wish I knew what I could do to make myself feel a bit more festive...

Shave your legs, paint your toenails, condition your hair and smother yourself in body lotion. Raid the bathroom cabinets and see what you can use. New Year, New You.

Make sure you are hydrated and get those antibiotics out of your system.

It is not being lazy if your body is telling you to sleep! You are the sole provider for 2 kids and 120 cats, and besides, you are on holiday. Relax a bit.

Put your feet up, pour yourself a glass of wine, watch "It's a wonderful life", "Home alone". or any of your favourite films (I shall be watching "Casablanca" and "Dr Zhivago"). Eat chocolate, make liquor coffee. Do all the things you enjoy. 2020 is a new year! xxx

  • Thanks everyone :hello: I am finally starting to feel a little bit festive now :) It kind of started yesterday when I had to queue for half an hour at M&S to even get into the shop, before queuing again to get my food order, then queuing to pay for it. Nothing like a solid hour and a bit of time wasting in a queue - very British indeed. I was, however, grateful that I'd done all of my shopping apart from picking that up.
Got home and sent ds next door to give presents to the neighbours - all home made food stuff but I think they'll enjoy it. Not sure what else you can get for elderly neighbours that don't ever leave the house.
Present wrapping all done and dusted. I had a couple of g&t in front of the telly last night and watched the new adaptation of A Christmas Carol on tv - I really, really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next episode tonight.
Today is my niece's birthday. I have her card and present here and my sister is going to pop in with her later - they're in high demand and very busy so it'll be a quick visit. I always think that Christmas properly starts after I've seen her on her birthday. Bless her.
Other than that, we all went out this morning so that my lovely life-saving cleaner could come and do her last one of the year. I took them to the butchers (bestie's dh) with me and we got a massive tray of pigs in blankets and a joint of gammon for Christmas dinner (as requested by the kids). Then headed off to fill the car up with petrol and have a little bite to eat. Successfully avoided the shops though, it looked very busy indeed and very stressful. Got home to a lovely clean house, and me and the kids have already watched Home Alone 2 and are now watching Scrooged. I think I'm ready for the hols to properly start.

That's all sounding nicely festive, CCL. The traffic & queues were mad here as well. We were on our way out on a more rural route to meet family for a festive lunch/exchanging presents, etc, & we just couldn't fathom why there was such a big queue of traffic coming the other way..........I wondered if there'd been an accident & everything was being diverted through town. But no, it was the queue heading for Waitr*se!! We were so thankful to be heading in the opposite direction! On our way back after lunch, cars were still queuing.
Gammon & pigs in blankets sounds very festive. Gammon makes such lovely leftovers too, for things like pasta bakes, pizza toppings & nommy sarnies......& I know it's a bit kitsch but I also like it on cocktail sticks with pineapple chunks! Hope you all have a lovely time. Play some games, watch some films, do some crafting, fit in a bit of fresh air if you get a nice crisp cold day & it will all do you a lot of good, I'm sure.
    Merry Christmas,
    F x

  • Oh I needed a good night's sleep last night, and I didn't get one. I woke up at 3am to the sound of naughty tortie being sick on the stairs. So I had to get up and deal with that. Followed by one of the others thinking that 5am was an excellent time to start scratching about the house for food. Managed to doze over on the sofa for a couple more hours but needed to be up in time for BeeTee and engineer visit number 5. He arrived at half past nine and was here until after 12. He said that there were no 'significant' errors but a couple of problems were showing up and that he would replace cables. He's done that but he has also left me his number and says that if it cuts out again I need to contact him directly as he knows what he has replaced, and what he can still do. I feel hopeful but not confident. We shall see - dd says that the broadband is already much improved (I don't see a difference) so that's hopefully a positive sign. Fingers crossed.
I'm out later - it's our annual family Christmas dinner. There are 11 of us altogether, which is too many for any of our homes, so we have a private dining room booked in a local pub. It's a great idea because it's not that expensive and nobody has the stress of having to cook and clear up for 11 people. We can just relax and enjoy each other's company for a bit. I'm looking forward to it (but might need to sleep again before then). Also need to wrap my stepdad's present, which I got very last minute. Other than that, I really think I'm about ready to go :T
I'm sure I'll be around and about but just in case I would like to wish all of you a very merry Christmas - whatever you're doing and however you're feeling. I hope that you have a peaceful and restful time, and enjoy it.
