Crazy Cat Lady Chapter 3 - A New Beginning

I do think it was really considerate of ds to wait until the holiday was over, and when you were not working, to become ill. What a little star.
Glad he is bouncing back strongly, I hope they discharge him totally today. You deserve some relaxation, and make sure there is plenty in for him to drink. Simple dehydration can cause kidney stones/infections - I hope that is the cause of it, if he was having too good a time to stay properly hydrated, then it is an easy fix.
Hugs

Morning all  :coffee:
Thank you all for your really kind words and well wishes for ds. I'm pleased to report that we were only in for 4 hours yesterday afternoon and he has been discharged for good with a box of high strength antibiotics, and a referral for another ultrasound scan in a few weeks plus a referral up to a urologist at the RVI (they have an excellent children's hospital there with lots of specialists, but it's right in Newcastle City Centre and I detest driving into Newcastle). I was better prepared yesterday, with my phone charger, a book and some snacks. It's as foxgloves said though - when I went in on Sunday I was honestly expecting to be home again within a few hours. I thought it was just an upset tummy (mother of the year again) and had a book, my purse and my phone (no charger) in my bag. The hospital were amazing and I'm eternally grateful for our nhs as always - they found me a phone charger, toothbrush and toothpaste, and let me use the shower once my sister had brought some stuff in from home as well. They even gave me breakfast every morning bless them, but I am SO pleased to be home with my own comforts.
By the time I got back to the hospital yesterday I'd done a bit of research into CT scanning (my science brain and recent reading of a book about Chernobyl nagging me about radiation dose and how susceptible children are), and seen that they're only recommended for children when all other options have been exhausted. I'd decided that as ds was on the mend then I didn't think it was necessary for him to have a CT and said so. Was expecting an argument but the doctor agreed and said that she would like him back in a few weeks for a repeat ultrasound scan instead. So DS had his antibiotics and a few blood tests and we came home.
I've lost count of the number of times I've been so thankful for us being home and not in Bulgaria by the time he got sick - I can't imagine what that would have been like. It's been a tough few days even at home. We're going overboard on making sure we're hydrated and eating well. Fingers crossed that it continues.
Still haven't heard from solicitor and never got round to phoning yesterday. I'm at the hairdressers this morning with ds so may just pop in while I'm there. Also need to get some more household stuff for a bit of a clean and tidy - binbags etc.
I'm in quite a reflective mood this morning... I've slept reasonably well and am up and about having a think about what to do and where to start. It's so grey outside, and I'm very grateful that I haven't been affected by the recent flooding (not so far from me). I have looked through my finances (first of the month) and allocated money to spend on the rest of the hols and school uniform and things are already looking tight - even with the exam money. I really wish that my solicitor experience was over and done with now and I could actually be getting on. I know I keep saying it can't go on for ever but it really does feel like it sometimes. I need to spend the month getting back to basics, budgeting, using up and planning.
Haircuts for me and ds this morning, plus his bestie is coming over during the day - I feel for my ds because he's only had me for company for the past four days, and I don't want him out and about just yet so they're obviously going to do an all day Fortnite thing or something. I'm also going to get binbags while I'm out and start with my decluttering challenge a la foxgloves. However, I'm reverse doing it as I think that'll be easier - so I'll start with 31 items today.
Gawd, I haven't half gone on haven't I? Sorry about thatNot giving up

So pleased that your son is on the mend. You are so right. The NHS is a literal life saver - it's just a shame it's under so much pressure all of the time.
I do hope you hear from the solicitor, surely a courtesy email wouldn't have been too much to ask - especially as you've probably funded their extravagant holiday this year. Although - I suspect if it was really bad news, and you had to do something then they would have been in touch.
Enjoy the decluttering - I can't wait to do mine - but I think it will be September for me - I'm not at home much in August either.Outstanding mortgage: £23,181 (December 19)

Yay to DS having been released back into the wild(ish)
I am dragging mine around the supermarket in 5 minutes. There is no food left in this house, except butternut squash, which, they reliably inform me, tastes like Satan. If they want lunch, they are going to have to move it!
Congratulations on being back home, and I hope any solicitor news is encouraging and positive.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Well, in my view, you ARE 'mother of the year'. You do everything in your power to look after your kids and give them the best possible childhood, even with the odds stacked against you. You cope with a stressful job, even taking on extra work to keep finances on track and enable them to have a decent holiday, have dealt with debt and divorce, and are still struggling with the uncertainty of the financial settlement going forward. You should give yourself a big pat on the back.
How were you to know that DS's illness was not just a tummy upset, especially in the early stages? You are not a medical professional, and most of these issues with children are exactly that - tummy upsets of one kind or another, which are unpleasant, but kids all get them, and they are almost always self limiting.0 -

So - back at the hospital again. Turns out they wanted another ultrasound scan today. We got 90 mins notice to get here and now we’re waiting again because ds bladder wasn’t full enough so he needs to drink more and we’re going back in 30 minutes.
I’m having one of those days. Lots of little things seem to have stacked against me and I feel like death by ten thousand paper cuts is imminent.
I finally caught up with my solicitor and it’s not good news. The judge isn’t interested in progressing things any further until we can prove that ex has seen the current orders and legal documents in place. As I have no clue where he is and data protection laws prevent me from finding out anything then my next option is to hire someone to find him and serve the papers. I dread to think how much that will cost, but I have exhausted every other option from my side. I’ve even tried sending him a text myself which is obviously being ignored or hasn’t been seen. I have spent much of the day in tears today if I’m being completely honest - and feel quite sorry for myself. Not giving up

oh sweetie, I didn't want to read and run. these things are sent to try us, you more than most, you will come out the other side!
might be worth getting your bestie & yours neighbours to keep an eye out in case he pops up nearby hers or yours so someone can have a friendly conversation to find out where he is staying. also maybe you can get word to him via his brother or council housing, they owe you after their last call to you.
