The problem is the seller has already confirmed he received the item back by email.

Paypal may insist that the buyer require evidence that the item was received but if the buyer still has all the corresponding emails, they may be enough to prove the item was returned.

I think either way paypal would have sided with the buyer even if you had sufficient proof that the phone had been tampered with.

If sending them a photo with yourself and the buyer shaking hands and handing over the cash and the item isn't good enough for them then I doubt a email will be.

As already mention paypal are only interested in tracking numbers.
  • Tell paypal you havn't recieved it, if the buyer has no tracking number then they shouldn't issue a refund as he has no proof.

Just received the following from Paypal. Does this mean he has lost the tracking number!!? ...As I read it - No!

PayPal has received online tracking information for the return of your
item(s): .... The buyer has supplied a tracking number

    Tracking Company: Royal Mail
Tracking Number: seller has the phone since oct ... PayPal are saying the tracking number appears to indicate that the seller [snakeyes] has had the phone since October

You can resolve this case faster by logging in and indicating that you have received the returned item. This will release the refund to the buyer automatically. If you do not report the item returned, PayPal will verify the tracking information and release the refund for you with no penalty. ... Paypal are inviting you to confirm you have had the phone returned to you and are in posession of it by logging in to your paypal account and probably clicking a 'yes' button - this will automatically refund your buyer. If you choose to decline this invite, then paypal will verify the tracking number themselves and refund the buyer.

So what now? If i do nothing, how will paypal verify the number if he doesnt have it?
.... As it looks like your buyer has supplied a tracking number [which anyone can look up on the RM website if they have it], then paypal will do this for you if you fail to repond and refund your buyer.

sad to say, looks like you've lost this one as paypal are biased towards the buyer. [keeps buyer trust high and encourages more use therefore forcing sellers to accept it as a method of payment therefore increasing revenue through fees generated]

    hope it helps

i think the buyer has lost the tracking number and entered the following text where the tracking number should have gone "seller has the phone since oct"

if i am correct then the buyer will not get his money back now unless he can find the tracking number

This is what I was thinking, but we'll have to see what Paypants decides..

  • Thanks Guys, i guess i should just wait for Paypal to investigate (started today) and realise no tracking number has been supplied. Then hopefully, they will return my £60. Either way, it shows how flawed Paypal and ebay are... Sellers need some real protection.

you can get your money back through the post office if you sent it that way. at least £30 odd pound of it. Always get them to send it back though.
