New Sticky? What To Do When A Partner/Spouse Leaves

Options
Has anyone else noticed an abundance of posts relating to separating from a partner/spouse? Posters have received excellent advice and support from this community :T so...

Would it be beneficial to perhaps create a new sticky similar to the "What to do when a partner/spouse dies?"

I thought the same. This is the information I posted in another post if it is of any use to the sticky!

    ==================

Here's some sites and information to help you with the practical issues:

http://www.entitledto.co.uk/ - This site helps you see what benefits you may be entitled to.

    Tax Credits
    http://taxcredits.direct.gov.uk/circumstances.html
    TEL: 0845 300 3900
You need to notify them ASAP regarding your change of circumstances otherwise you may find yourself in the unfortunate position of an overpayment.

Financial Independence - If you don't already have a sole bank account I would apply for one now so that you can take control of your finances.

    Citizens Advice - http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/
You can find your local office on this site and they will be able to offer you loads of advice.

    Divorce/Separation - http://www.divorce.co.uk/
Although it might be too painful to think about divorce right now, it is always good to prepare yourself if that is the route you choose to go down. This site also gives advice on separation.

    For the kids - http://www.itsnotyourfault.org/
This site provides information for kids and parents on dealing with separation.

Housing - If you are in a rented property you will probably need to let the landlord know. I am not sure what needs to happen if the property is mortgaged.

Council Tax - You might be entitled to a single occupancy discount.

    Single Parents

Yes, i think this is a superb idea! What with all the emotional stuff that is ongoing its good to have a focus on who/what/how to manage the financial stuff!

Good on you for thinking of this!

Excellent, thank you for the feedback.

How do I go about requesting it to be made into a sticky?

Yup, I too think it's a great idea, luckily working with benefits I was well up on what to claim for when ex moved out, but what I could have really done with (and truth be told, still could do with) is contacts for support groups, that sort of thing, for the emotional side as well.

well my partner has just left. No kids and no financial problems. But the loneliness and isolation is awful. I have lost my social circle while we have been together and although friends and family are supportive they have their own lives/familes.

I'd love any info/ideas on how to rebuild my life .....
