I'm having the same issue. My password is 10 digits long. A family member with a password 8 digits long is not getting that error message. Therefore I'm assuming my password is too long for their new system. It would be helpful if they told us!

The system is quite happy to accept my password to log in (eventually), so why is it suddenly not suitable to make a payment or transfer

My password is more than 10 characters in length, and as I've reported elsewhere I can log in and make external transfers / payments just fine. I haven't seen any of the issues others are having - and just for the record I use Firefox.

A poorly-written system, maybe? These days, 8 character passwords are far too short, but there shouldn't really be any upper limit on a password length - the longer the better.

Anyway, my password is longer than 10 characters and I can log in but haven't done a payment yet. I changed a standing order amount and that went through OK, though. If you want to transfer money between your own accounts then the Quick Transfer may work as that doesn't seem to ask for a password.

EDIT: I've tried a payment and that worked just fine even with my longer password.
Strange. It appears it is only fussy about password length for some customers then.

A poorly written system? I think we'd worked that one out! I'm half expecting a list of ransom demands over Gibraltar before access can be restored :rotfl:

Currently I can't even get the new log in page to load, just a blank white page on Chrome.

Let me quote an internet wag: the trouble with IT people is that they think they are enormously clever when in fact they are usually just modestly clever.

In this particular case, one of them and his boss were downright stupid.

The site won't even come up at the moment and when it does I can't log in. A complete shambles.
  • Things are kindasorta working this morning. Everything is really, really slow - even the initial front-end page.

I think it a bit churlish to criticise TSB's decision to refer to a list of accounts held as a "Holding list".

The fact that fingerbobs found it necessary to explain to another poster what "holding list" meant shows that "holding list" is indeed a rotten use of English.

Went into my local branch (Darlington) this morning as I needed to get change to make up a float.

Overheard a staff member saying none of their machines were working so they were limited in what they could do.

That explained why the long queue and why they were getting everyone who wanted to pay in to put the cash/cheques into envelopes for processing later.

I left, don't need the float until the weekend so will try again later in the week.

I'm now thinking the issue isn't due to password length at all. It is due to current passwords not being in the correct format

When I enter my password to try and make a payment the following message appears and I cannot proceed any further.
You've either not entered enough characters or you've entered too many.
However if I add a random number the above message disappears. If I add a random letter it does not. Obviously the transaction still fails even if it does allow me to proceed, as my password is then wrong.

Under tips for creating a password TSB state the following:
6 - 15 characters, contain at least 3 letters and 1 number and have no special characters, spaces, punctuation or symbols.

Currently my password does not contain a number at all and I think that might be causing the issue.

Unfortunately I can't even change my password to the correct format. If I try I get the following message when entering my current password:
We're sorry, but the details you entered aren't in the right format.
Please check them and try again.

Have you considered that during your experimenting you may have been locked out?
