Classic Shell

I like Windows 10. In fact I was a Mac user at home for over 10 years because I didn't like previous versions of Windows but Windows 10 drew me back.
I'm not sure why something like classic shell is needed - why not just used Windows 10 as it is intended to be used?0 -

It looks nothing like the mobile version on a PC.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

So if classic shell doesnt work with on alternatives?
already mentioned in the thread, its not free but it is at least cheap.
startisback.
I personally just run windows 8.1 (with startisback), for some reason people think they got no choice but to use windows 10, but they do have a choice.0 -

You won't have to look far.

For me its piece of mind the windows platform itself is feature stable, no unexpected changes in features/UI and programs that will suddenly stop working.
No forced updates interrupting what I am doing, forced reboots etc. Less whitespace UI (old school windows UI).
Less telemetry to worry about, no cortana integration. Also in my testing Windows 8.1 is more responsive than Windows 10 on equal hardware.
Hope this helps.
I also managed to have windows 8.1 running on my new coffee lake PC, which is quite amusing.

The classicshell dev has said he doesnt expect classicshell to ever break on 8.1 for these reasons, as microsoft dont just randomly change stuff, its a much more stable code base.
Windows 8.1 has another 5 years of support left on it before Microsoft will stop security patches.0 -
The W10 start menu is absolutely terrible. Will give some classic shell alternatives a go this week and see which looks and feels like W7 start best! Good thread.0
