MS have finally done it
"Classic Shell" is incompatible with Win 10's latest update and the developers say "no more updates will be produced..."
The latest update found irs way on to my PC without even asking and killed what little faith I still had in MS
Classic Shell was the only way that I could cope with Win 10's useless menu so what next ?
Back to Win 7 - I think......

You're an IT expert with 25 years experience of "proper IT", so you should know how to sort this.
Install Server 2012R2, set up an AD domain, configure WSUS and configure your desktop PC to be part of the AD domain and get its updates through WSUS. WSUS will give you complete control of what updates your AD clients receive so you can block them all and enjoy life in a haze of vulnerabilities.
Or live with the default interface in Windows 10, which is absolutely fine.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
The developer stopped back in December 2017 .

There were few factors that led to my decision:
1) Lack of free time. I have other hobbies that demand my time, some related to software and some not. It requires a lot of effort to add new major features to Classic Shell and keep it relevant. Even keeping it running on newer version of Windows is a lot of work. That leads me to point #2
2) Windows 10 is being updated way too frequently (twice a year) and each new version changes something that breaks Classic Shell. And
3) Each new version of Windows moves further away from the classic Win32 programming model, which allowed room for a lot of tinkering. The new ways things are done make it very difficult to achieve the same customizations
So, moving forward, I am making the latest version of Classic Shell open-source and adding it back to SourceForge (https://sourceforge.net/projects/classicshell/), where it all began. I encourage other people to fork it and go with it.

What, exactly is useless about W10 menu? Or did you mean different?Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

I was not too keen on the W10 menu at first but have got used to it and anything I really want I put on the desktop or task bar. It is also easy enough to pull some of the prog/app shortcuts out of the folders they get put in just as in the W7 menu. Very similar to the W7 menu but with pictures.0

It's perfectly possible in Windows 10 to:
- remove all the tiles from the start menu/desktop,
- change Cortana to be simply a magnifying glass on the toolbar,
- add a Control Panel desktop shortcut
I do it for each Windows 10 PC/laptop I encounter!0 -
