So just shows it's truly a random check.0 -
But surely the system should be set up to ensure that you need a minimum of two items to be randomly scanned… if I was going to steal a £3 pizza I would hardly scan it and attempt to pay for it unless I decided to nick a £3 pizza by scanning a £1 chocolate bar I suppose.........0

If the system was set up so you had to have a minimum of two items to be randomly checked then surely unscrupulous people would just scan one item and steal a second one?
Seems like only a completely random system is fit for purpose.0 -

Or you could decide that you fancy a Tesco Finest spinach and Ricotta pizza but you don't have the £6 to pay for it so you simply scan one of their "standard" spinach and ricotta pizzas (which are £3) instead.
That way you have scanned one pizza, paid for one pizza and walked out of the store with one pizza so at a quick glance it appears that you've done nothing wrong.0 -
Well, I definitely didn't see that post.
No wonder it was removed.0 -

Which was both very stupid and potentially libellous.
People often say posts on here are libellous but I’m never too sure if they are.
Can you legally libel someone when you don’t have the real name of the person? It would be quite interesting to see what would happen if this went to court.0 -
The thing I find odd is that I occasionally forget something, and go back the next day and buy one or two items.
Each time this has happened I get checked.
I don't care, because it's obviously very quick, but I can't think of a good reason for it.
(Background: I've use scan and shop every time I shop, since it was introduced a few years back, get checked occasionally, and have never had any problems.)0 -

They probably use machine learning to flag the fact that based on your normal sized shop this smaller shop is unusual behaviour and should be checked.0 -

I don't shop in Asda so don't know if they even have that in their stores.
I do a basket shop in Tesco but wouldn't use scan and shop, I use the self service tills.0 -
Was that using 'scan and shop'?

It’s not very good the Asda “scan as you” shop system. It’s overly complicated as they don’t run a club card scheme so you need to login via a phone number.
Also this may just be my local one but they don’t staff the checkout area so you can find yourself standing there for five minutes if you are stopped for a random check!0
