Delurking again
I reckon it's worth a cheeky call to the insurer to haggle
A quick comparison to give you something of substance to use as a bargaining tool.
Failing that a little cashback website may make the quote drop a little
I get really excited when a renewal comes through - I think I'm a bit weird to be honest Cheery as I see it as a challenge to save money and win a haggling contest.

Been neglecting thinking about dosh for a while as I'm going through a relatively busy period at work, but things are still ticking along. Might spend a bit of time working on stuff after tea tonight.
* Our pin numbers arrived for new NW current account. They were SO pale on the peel off sheet we could barely see them  In fact, Mr Cheery had one for his main account the other week and we'd just assumed we'd have to ring for another one because there was no number. After the experience with these, he dug that out (fortunately he'd kept the whole thing, including the peel off strip) - with a torch and a lot of peering we've managed to figure it out. How many people miss the number altogether - my eyesight is EXCELLENT and I missed it on the first one!
* Need to check the initial amount transferred into the PO account and then transfer the rest
* Then need to check NW account is set up properly, and transfer the appropriate amount in there - and make a note to myself to transfer in/out at the appropriate time
* Also need to investigate setting up regular saver on NW account
* Now NW account is open, need to apply for TSB one.
Yawn. This all seemed like a good idea but now I'm bored of it:rotfl: *Think of the interest Cheery!* :money:
* Little car has passed its MOT :j I should think so, given that we had £330 worth of work done on it to make it pass
* Need to pay tax for little car (due 1st Feb) - only £30 fortunately :money:
* Not done YNAb since payday so need to sort that.
Gah. Probably won't take that long but needs brain spaceTechnically not finished what I needed to do for work today yet but I'm getting less and less efficient so I might stop & start again tomorrow.
Right, what's for tea?? Possibly sweet potato chips?? mmmmmmm :rotfl: Also need to shut the chickens in, and it's getting a bit chilly here so need to check the boiler pressure - damn thing goes too low every single day at the minute so need to get the plumber back out
One thing at a time Cheery....0 -
Busy busy! And I hate those peel off strips passionately :rotfl: I think they're often badly printed as well
Is your NW account registered for online banking, Cheery? And do you have the one with the Rewards, because thats another registration. And I found out with my new NW one that I have to *apply* for a cheque book - doing it online is such a faff I've waited till I can go into a branch, which I'm doing tomorrow
Ooh, but regular Saver on NW ... I hope they have one.
Yummity to sweet potatoes2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Don't think I've got one with rewards but there's definitely a regular saver - that's why I chose that account :j
Sweet potatoes are in the oven :j and some crustless quiche things (that are not remotely like quiche but I don't know what else to call them, just eggs, cottage cheese & veg done in the oven)
Chickens tucked in and cosy :j
Recycling remembered, sorted & carried to the end of the drive - which is a surprisingly long way away in the dark and cold carrying a box of recycling :rotfl:
Reminded myself we don't have a calendar when I tried to look whether it was recycling or landfill & I was still looking at December :rotfl: must look out for a reduced one somewhere :j0 -

Cheery no need to buy a calendar as you can print calendars off from a lot of websites on-line for free, just Google printable calendars. All you need is 12 sheets of A4 paper, so very cheap and money saving. We printed ours last year but can't remember the website now I'm afraid but the one we used allows you to personalise it with your name on etc. If you don't fancy a paper one the BHWT have them reduced now to I think around £7ish. Hope that is some help.
Your are doing great by the way. Well done keep it up.

I did this for my work calendar as the one work provides doesn't actually have any space to write things in!Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
Thank you for your excellent calendar tips people :j In reality, it's only me who ever looks at it, and only to see whether it's recycling day or not :rotfl: and I can easily just put that in my own diary :rotfl: So a small bit of dosh saved there :money:
Talking you standing up in my kitchen while batch cookingFeels like the old days of MSE (although I'm not sure I ever personally did that in the old days anyway :rotfl:
I'm making a lentil and spinach lasagne to go in the freezer for easy teas this week as I'm out and about a few days. And some kind of veggie kedgeree thing - haven't quite decided what that'll be like yet but I've got some rice on the go at least :rotfl:0 -
lentil and spinach lasagne sounds nice do you have a recipe I could pinch?
CRx0 -
I very rarely use recipes CR! All I did was boil up some red lentils and a tin of tomatoes with a couple of stock cubes, mix in a load of frozen spinach I'd defrosted in the microwave, then layer it with lasagne sheets. On top I put a mix of 3 eggs, about half a tub of quark (wasn't quite enough, should have used more to make it thicker) then grated a little bit of cheese on the top.
Dead easy, and no chopping
Turns out we had hardly any veg so my actual tea wasn't very interesting :rotfl: Fried up some cabbage and rice, and had an egg on the top :rotfl: :rotfl: Cheap though:money: But I'm not exactly some kind of gourmet cook
:rotfl:
