Well I will be 40 next year so it's about time really  :rotfl:
Don't say that... I'm older than you and I have no idea how this being grown up thing is supposed to work!0 -

I guess this is why people did spring cleaning in the past...) Then wrapped up and spent an hour sorting the chicken run - filled their little shelters with hay, turfed all the old bedding out of the hen house and restocked it, washed and replenished all the food and water containers etc. Lovely, lovely out there, but my goodness me it was cold
I didn't get the spring cleaning thing either Cheery until I moved into an old house. Now I have to clean every time the sun comes out as it shows up all the dust bunnies :rotfl:

:rotfl: you lot :rotfl:
More cleaning up today as we've attempted to sweep the chimney  actually there was surprisingly little mess. I saw a chimney sweeping receipt when we viewed the house (and nobody was living in it then) and we only tried it once on the night we moved in - and the room filled with smoke...
Got a torch out today and stuck my head up - giant pile of sticks  clearly something has been building a nest... Some kind of emu judging by the amount of sticks we pulled down  :rotfl:
Shoved the brushes up, tried a very small fire - smokey room. Stuck head back up - more sticks.
More wrangling and as far as I can see we've got them all now  going to try an experimental tiny fire again in a minute...
Chickens being a nuisance. We couldn't find them when we came back earlier and feared the worst  but after wandering and shouting (and making chicken noises...) we heard them inside one of the outbuildings. Seems they'd found a small hole under a door, gone wandering, and couldn't find their way out. Idiot chickens. They did it again later so we've blocked the hole up and now they're hanging out in the coal shed.
Roll on summer!0 -
I wonder if your chickens were trying to meet up with your emus? Not a sentence I ever thought I'd write :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Sounds as if you need to get a cowl put on your chimney - otherwise you're likely to find sooty pigeons flying round the room! Or bats. It won't stop hornets though (I had one in the stove last summer, thankfully it made it's own way back up the chimney!).
Round here it tends to be jackdaws that try to nest in the chimneys. Finding dead baby birds in the fireplace isn't nicePigeons just sit on top and shout down them... although apparently they are very stupid and sweeps are always finding dead pigeons.

...Pigeons just sit on top and shout down them...
This happens to us ALL summer! - I often have to go upstairs & open the back room window to lean out and have a grumble at them before they will budge. I think they like the attention!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! The fattest pigeons in the world live in our garden and they dance on our roof in hobnailed boots. They also shout at each other !0

I hear a lot of pigeons in my living room in the summer time too
Erm, from up the chimney, I mean2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
We live on the coast so it's seagulls sitting on our chimney having a game of "who can make the loudest echo" which really miffs the cats..."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

:rotfl: at all you lot with birds echnoing down the chimney :rotfl: We used to get this when I was a kid with wood pigeon noises appearing from the gas fire in the living room :rotfl: And yes, we will need to get a cowl put over the top - we've already had a wren in the house which I think can only have come down the chimney!
Not today though. Working at home today, and yesterday I did a load of batch cooking so I've got 4 portions of lasagne in the freezer, plus enough little crustless quiche things for 3 meals. I'll have those for lunch, and endeavour to cook for tea tonight so the frozen stuff can stay frozen for a time of more need...
Depending what I feel like, I might knock up a curry to stick in the freezer too later :j
And today is Monday - and Monday on my weekly plan (which I rarely stick to, but hey) is YNAB and finances day :j
Mind you, can't really do much til the rest of the bumf for the new bank accounts arrives in the post. We've had no post at all since last Monday because of the snow  Little lane down to our house was still iced over yesterday - we've been getting out ok but I can see why they wouldn't send the rural postie out down every little lane and snow-bound drive - it'd take about a week to deliver a day's worth of post!
But bizarrely pretty much all of the snow vanished literally overnight  I noticed it was melting a bit when I went out to shut the ladies in last night, but this morning the fields are green again, having been completely white yesterday. Most odd. So perhaps we'll get some post today after all! :j0
