Thank you all for your kind words. We're shocked really - it's always sad losing a beaky pal, but this was just so unexpected and quick 😕
Anyway, the others, including Bessie, seem fine, thank goodness. Only eight days to go til they can come out of their run (I am SO sad Chippy didn't get to see the end of the stupid chicken lockdown 😢). Something to look forward to at least.
And only three days left at work! Although that feels more like a source of stress at the minute than anything else, as there's so much to do, and I keep being interrupted by chicken distress. Fingers crossed for a fairly uneventful day. I've only got one meeting this afternoon, more cheerful than stressful, so I'm hoping I'll feel a bit less behind by the end of the day.
Bessie is going back to the vets on Thursday though, so I'm going to have to do some rearranging of various things on Thursday afternoon 🙄 Need a few clear days to get everything done but clearly not going to get them!
Dosh from the regular saver has arrived in the bank account, which is great. Need to sit and ponder what needs to be where before I transfer it all into premium bonds again on impulse 🙈😂
That's another thought - only eight days til the next premium bonds draw! 😁 And here's a question - would I tell anyone if I DID win £1m?? 😂😂 Or would I be so shocked I'd be too scared to tell anyone in case it made it not real any more??
Right, best get dressed I suppose 🙄8 -

Thanks Vix xx
So, today was, thank goodness, a reasonably uneventful day. I got a couple of big deadlines ticked off, which has made me feel better. I had a nice chat with some colleagues this afternoon, also nice - one of them announced they're expecting a baby so that's cheerful news 😊
Nowt else to report. Still not posted nephew's present, although I do now have all the component parts so I'll whizz to the post office at 9am with that. Vets again tomorrow, so that'll mean being out 10 til 2, sigh.
Having a chat with boss tomorrow, and I'm going to ask her about the feasibility of going down to four days a week. No idea if that's even possible, but I've worked it out and financially we could do it, so really I just need to find out if work would allow it. Wouldn't be til September anyway. Might still not take the plunge, but definitely worth finding out if it's possible.
Two more days at work...7 -
@Cheery_Daff animals just get into your heart and settle there don't they? Especially the sort that let you share their space to sit and contemplate the world.I went down to four days a week (although not wholly by choice) last year, and whether it works is entirely based on whether the work reduces as well as the hours. For parts of the year it's great, but I'm in academia in a very student-facing role, and my non-working weekday just means I have twice as much work to catch up on the next day. I've lost count of how many days off I've partially worked anyway just because I couldn't face the in-box I'd return to.2014 starting mortgage £165,0002015 second charge £20,000 - Jan 2021 paid off in fullCurrent outstanding balance - £115,8564

You're right of course Chiglepig. I'm in a similar position, with similar dangers. I've worked 4 days before, and was excellent at not looking at emails on a Friday, but that was a research only role... I am generally pretty strict at ignoring emails on weekends and evenings (and getting more so as I get older), but you do always feel a bit of responsibility towards the students.
I think some of my own danger would also come from wanting to stick my finger in too many exciting pies...
Anyway, it might not actually be possible anyway, so we'll see...8 -
Yes, it's the student work I struggle to leave, if I have to continue on a reduced contract next year, I'm going to swap one whole day for two afternoons, but I am getting good at not doing evening and weekend email.

Ooh, I'll definitely be having whole Fridays off if I can! With an afternoon I'd be too tempted to carry on til 1, or 2, or 3... I'd rather just let everyone fend for themselves for the entire weekend 😂
My mum works full time over 4 days, and always has Wednesday off, figuring she then has to never work more than 2 days in a row 😂😂 I much prefer a longer weekend myself!
Bessie has been to the vets, and is fine 🙄 Seems we were just fretting unnecessarily when we booked the appointment the other day. She wasn't so impressed at being in the car today... 🙄
Home now. The sun is shining, and the slurry van is out 😂 which is good, because it means I'm not tempted to be outside when I should be working 🙄 Meeting a pal for a walk later though, which will be nice and very much needed!
Had an email earlier linking to an LPG invoice, which I assume means we've had a delivery today, will check later. So that'll likely be another £500 quid or possibly a bit more - should last us through to late summer now the warmer weather is here though.
Right, got an hour before I meet the boss, going to see how many things I can tick off my list!6 -
Aahh slurry spreading! We have a very suburban house, but back onto a dairy farm - have to admit I rather like the smell - but the noise when they take the calves away I find really difficult.Living down wind of a pig farm, now that's something I never want to repeat!2014 starting mortgage £165,0002015 second charge £20,000 - Jan 2021 paid off in fullCurrent outstanding balance - £115,8566
