I neither smoke nor drink, do you think I cost you more in the health sense than someone who is a heavy drinker or smoker?
And my physical state of being apart from being fat is excellent.
I have stated in the past I gained the weight during university when I ate junk food when I was lucky to get more than 1 hours a day sleep as flatmate was having 24/7 parties apart from that I have never been living that unhealthy a lifestyle apart from when the relative died.
It seems a lot of drama happens to you. Just walk away from it.0 -
But you dont go out !!
You say you have to make yourself go to town to look round the shops aimlessly just to get out of the house .. So why not change that into going to the gym.
So many benefits - not least of which are psychological
Like i say anyway - just a suggestion - i wish you all the best
I was reading this thread and was thinking "Join a gym" and got to this post.
I agree. A routine, positive physical and psychological benefits, better than the fast food shop, will keep you away from the kids for a bit etc etc etc0 -
Isn't it insulting their intelligence to pretend they are healthy? It's my experience that many obese people don't accept how big and unhealthy they are. Perhaps if more people were honest with them, they would begin to accept it and change their lives.
No that causes more problems and often ends up hypocritical, imagine say someone who likes a drink or smoke and drives everywhere even to corner shops telling someone whos overweight who neither smokes nor drinks and does a lot of walking they are not as healthy as you!
The "its my experience" is a easy get out as it means anything can be said regardless of the truth,
For the last bit it often does end up shaming like what I said before, I remember when I lost 2 stone but still got nasty commentst because all people saw me me being overweight then assuming I just stuff my face all the time, hey I was even called fat when I was barely a stone overweight imagine how much worse it is when you see someone say stuff their face with a pizza then claim you are the fat greedy person.0 -
It's also good for confidence and self respect. I dont think many people realise this. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

No, it doesn't. Being overweight is unhealthy - deal with it. That is your issue. The "its my experience" is a easy get out as it means anything can be said regardless of the truth,
What? For the last bit it often does end up shaming like what I said before, I remember when I lost 2 stone but still got nasty commentst because all people saw me me being overweight then assuming I just stuff my face all the time,

Seriously - you are the common denominator for all of these issues. Only you can change them.
Joining a gym and actually going would help solve a multitude of your issues. Why won't you do that?0 -
Dekaspace, you're obviously doing something to draw negative attention to yourself without realising. I don't know if there's anything you can do about it but perhaps your social worker can help.
I agree with others that doing some exercise would be helpful in lots of ways. I can understand though that joining a gym might not be the best way forward. Swimming might be your best option as it's gentle, and once you're in the water you're on your own and almost invisible. Cycling might also be good for you - again it's not weight bearing, and you do it on your own so you don't have to worry about being laughed at (if that what makes a gym scary for you).
Or something like pilates or yoga might help you change the way you carry yourself.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Maybe the OP can't afford to go to a gym.
He can - did you not read the thread?Did join a gym before but never went and its increased in price by £5 a month now so seems a waste of time its more that if I am having a busy day I don't want to detour to the gym get sweaty then walk home or wait on a bus to turn up when im sore and stiff I do miss the gym.0 -

I cannot cycle, not that I have tried in a while but have coordination issues due to my autism, and these days get ear problems which affect my balance.
Nearest swimming pool from me is like 45 minutes to a hour away (not far but public transport)No, it doesn't. Being overweight is unhealthy - deal with it. That is your issue.
What?

Like to know your qualifications to back up your claim and how you have a crystal ball to know every overweight person, and thats what I was hinting at your "experience" of overweight people makes you believe yourself to be a expert. Theres a difference between someone stuffing their face at every chance and a crazy diet and lifestyle and someone just overweight, it increases risk.
I also want to know your qualifications in mental health and disabilties, just because the point is even a expert doesn't know everything about every situation not getting at you just saying your own experiences don't mean everyones the same.
I need support to clear my mind first then I can focus on the physical side.
I used to go to the gym a lot when the issues first happened all that happened was I felt worse and that in itself made worse by the meatheads in the gym saying outright to my face comments about my apperance or that I was fooling no body.0 -

Then maybe go to a gym where there are classes.
I can't ride a bike, because of balance issues, but I can do a "spin" class on a fixed bike. Or as Ames says perhaps yoga or Pilates. You don't get "meatheads" in those and it's quite gentle exercise as a starter.0
