Still very conscious of Sea & the video, but I've come on my diary this morning to get my list up of things I need to do, I was starting it in my paper diary while I was in London yesterday, but its so cramped I can't really read it. And this one, I can alter as necessary, so here goes:

    Online:
    - A&L transfers to keep to the monthly agreement of £500 a month into the account (t/fs will be in and out). done, 1639. The account only started on 9 November, so the 2nd month's money doesn't need to be in till 9.1.08, & that means I can leave it alone till after I come back.

    - take my CDs and books off Amazon, since I'm away tomorrow for Christmas (but remember to put them back straight away, or I'll lose the listing, & have to input them all over again). done, 0907.

    - check my credit card payment date - its 9th Jan, I'm pretty sure, which means I don't need to do it till after I get back, but.... better safe than sorry.done. It was due to leave my account on 24th, so I've paid it now. My credit card debt has gone!

    - email my New Jersey cousin to say bye for Christmas done, by 1630.

    - book Travelodge for June: MICHAEL SHANKS IS COMING TO ENGLAND FOR A THREE DAY CONVENTION!!!! Okay, this was supposed to get a post of its own, for my beloved Michael, but needs must.done, 1019, took ages - went via greasypalm in the end, since travelodge & ibis etc are room only, found a hotel still within walking distance that does breakfast, same price in the end, and its a bit classy, with free internet access too!

    Christmassy Christmas things:
    - 2nd pressie for bro and wife. done. Got them some beautiful bone china mugs - not Christmassy, but v v beautiful.

    - wrap presents (won't have time to do it once I go to my mum's).

    - put a tenner in a little Christmas card for a local lad I give to. done, its now 1904.

    Boring Christmas things:
    - find my rail ticket! It doesn't have a seat reservation for part of the outward journey, so its sitting in a to-do pile somewhere, instead of where my tickets normally sit, oops. Oh bleep. Its a bleepity bleep, this one. I've been meaning to make this phone call for ages, and I just made it, and there are no reservable seats left for 90% of my journey. Meaning I'll have to be really lucky to get a seat at all. I usually am lucky, but that can never be guaranteed. Virgin Trains have never sent me a ticket that didn't have reserved seats on the Intercity part, I'm really peeved, but I should have checked well before this. Rats. Double rats with lots of cheese.

    - buy some pesto and gluten free bread, I'm addicted to the pesto, and the gluten free is the only chance I get to have bread.done. Already eaten two of them!

    - hoover the bedroom floor, with assoc. sundries to clean up there. done as much as I'm going to do.

    - then, and only then (i.e. after the hoovering) have a bath and wash hair.

    - buy an A4 diary for 2008, the one I've bought isn't working (99p jobs both, so not too disastrous). that one *isn't*going to get done - doesn't matter, its only necessary when I go back to work on 7 January, and still plenty of leeway even then.

    - back up the computer

    - finish doing a CD of my genealogy info for the cousin I'm seeing on 27th December (thats usually a quiet day, aaargh!). done, and made two copies. I hope their computers can read, otherwise I'll just send it in sections to their email addresses.

    - write to the Nationwide about my recent tussle with them, and put it in writing how I want the next overpayment to go (i.e. off the capital, not the term). Didn't need to do the letter! I went online to my current account, and there's been a tiny wee refund from Nationwide, which must be the money in relation to the reduction of the monthly interest amount rather than the term. And the next repayment is therefore done!

    - go to the bank and put cheques in. done

    - prepare food for the train journey - can't eat wheat or cow's milk, makes it difficult for a vegetarian if you don't take your own. And its dfw!

    - train journey tomorrow is LONG: do I still have the French knitting mushroom? Can I take a teach yourself crochet book, and hook, to muck around with?

    - also posted a last Christmas card/letter, and bought some CD-Rs to use for the genealogy disc I'm preparing. uh, done earlier, by definition!

In the name of all that... uh, has a name.... how am I going to do that lot in one day? I'm not like the mums on this board, I'm a complete wimp at getting going and doing practical stuff. I'm not at all bad at the online stuff, but this hoover/cook/bathe/wrap, jeez, I'm gonna explode. I might have to buy one of those little £2.50 sparkly bottles in M&S to get me through. Wish me luck, Carruthers, I'm going in.....

Well, this is turning out to be a weird day. In the middle of this perfect storm of preparation for Christmas, it turns out I can cross literally thousands of my debt. Very odd indeed. It goes like this:

    a) normal monthly payment to Northern Rock contains £122.58 capital repayment.

    b) I used two thirds of the money my mum's given me to repay my total credit card debt. The 0% deal was about to run out, and of course a balance transfer costs 3% these days... so although it technically makes more sense to stooze her money, I paid off the credit card with it instead. I'm absolutely sure it was the right thing to do: the sense of freedom as I did it was fantastic!!!! Thats £2080.30!

    c) Earlier this year, my mum gave me some other money - because my brother and sister have had thousands over the years in terms of presents to OHs and children, and I've had neither - in reality, she saw I was strugglng, and wanted to help, which was very sweet. I'm using that money to pay off the mortgage, which is the highest interest debt I've got, and needs to be paid off anyway a bit because the endowment won't cover it. And thats £500.

Altogether, this is a total of £2,702.88. And only £122.58 of that comes from me, the rest is in two gifts from my mum. Like I said, a weird day.

Thanks, guys - yep, she's mellowed and turned a real corner in the last ten years or so. And youre very welcome for the card, Pania.

Spud!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: I'll ask her if you like! :rotfl: I had a comment from my New Jersey cousin about how helpful my sister was (to her MiL) - seems that my family is coming up gems all the time!

The money my mum has is a matter of luck that she and my dad were both given redundancy payments near retirement age, and then prudence in that she looked after the money well.

So, I'm about off now; today has been so frantic because I'm getting the 9am train to Liverpool, and I'm not getting back till late next Friday, so the diary is closing temporarily.:rudolf: :rudolf: The reindeer are pulling the train, y'know...

And I hope everyone has the Christmas they want, that life is gentle to us, and we're actually energised by whatever holiday we have.

:santa2: Merry Christmas to all! :santa2:
