A lady at Stitchin’ worked out how to do a block square from my wonky effort. Not quite how Bella Coco did it. She sat with me while I had a go. I’ve got to make a cake to take with me on the 27th. I need a recipe for gluten free if anyone has a tried and tested they’ve done it would be appreciated.

DD1 is going to drive up tonight, as the funeral is on Friday. She’s got a builder going in to look at the floor today, so hoping that’s not going to be too expensive.
I think DS2 will be home this week, just not sure what day. I also think he may appear up here, which will be nice to give him a squash and a squeeze.
Work is busy, which is good. Badders tonight

The trick with squares in crochet is usually to pay particular attention to the corners - the patter I've been using requires 2 x TC, 3 x chain then another 2 x TC to make each corner - and once those are right you can really see the square shape developing. Another thing to be mindful of is which nations terminology is used as mixing US and UK terms could cause issues.

BC thanks for the reminder on attic 24 too - a very useful site!

Sorry to hear that DS is having a traumatic time - and DD1 too with her property. Hopefully her situation at least will prove to be straightforward to mend - broken hearts not quite so easy though eh.

For gluten free I just use Asda GF flour and follow a normal recipe ! It makes a really light cake but it dries out very very quickly so a wet filling is best.

you will need to line your tins (or not very MSE buy new ones) if you’ve used them for ‘normal’ cakes

And don’t make chocolate brownies ! That’s the de facto option when you eat out - there’s only so many brownies you can eat 🤣🤣🤣

Good luck with the baking and the crocheting. The latter is something I haven't ever got the hang of.

Hope everything goes smoothly for the funeral.

Lovely morning. DD1 has made it up and is ensconced in my office working. I’ve got to go and have my B12 injection, I’ll take the mutts with me and have a short walk. Nothing else planned. I think DS2 might come up on Saturday. He’s due to return to the UK on Friday

Not as nice a day, forecast says it’ll be windy but no rain. I’m not so sure about that as I’m eyeballing a big black cloud. Just hope it stays dry for the burial.
Did get the hounds out for a nice walk, met a lovely couple who were off to the shore to do some photography. Bumped into them when I got back and they’d been watching otters!  Never seen one in the flesh. A minke whale calf got lost from its pod, sadly it died but not far from where we are.
Potentially got a dog sitter for when we’re away in January. Need to make sure they can do the dates then I’ll book tickets.
