The switch date is not important. You need to apply for the switch by 11:59 p.m. on Monday 19th March, but the switch does not have to complete at any set time.

    Hi Valiantson,
I opened my account/switch this morning via phone (19/3/18)
I was told to get the £125 incentive the switch had to be started straight away, my completion date for switch was given as 28/3/18
    I am, therefore I think.

  • Hey guys,

A few quick questions on banking, if the monthly payments in is £750... ( I am temporarily a student for another 6 months and then will become a primary school teacher)

Can I transfer my savings I have now into a friends account (before I switch) and then have him transfer them to me in monthly installments as £750, as I am not earning anything until spetember...
or is there a better way???

    Cheers :)

Transfer £750 from your savings into Halifax Reward and then transfer it straight back again. Rinse and repeat monthly....

I imagine that they said that because today is the last day and they didn't expect that you would want to phone them back today to do it!

    Glad you got it sorted!

Well done. If you elected the earliest date to commence the switch then the incentives should reach you by this coming Friday.

    And indeed they have!

I applied for the switch on the 14th- my new Halifax account is open and I've been sent the debit card and can access online banking, but my old Tesco account is also still open and the balance hasn't been transferred over. Surely it should be done by now? Or is it 7 working days from when your application is accepted, rather than from when you apply?

You should have been told your switch date at the time you started the process.

7 working days is the minimum but you can choose a later date if you like.

Mine was switched early in the morning (and the old account closed) on the agreed date.

Give Halifax a call and they will confirm your switch date if you don't know it.
  • I've had a switch to Halifax declined by Tesco - can't find my Tesco account debit card so selected no debit card option when initiating the switch. Tesco have declined the switch due to the 'debit card number being incorrect' (Halifax's words).

I have (now) reported the card lost to Tesco, so that card has been deactivated, I guess I could try again. Anyone else done this?
I successfully switched from Tesco to Halifax on Monday. I destroyed the debit card originally issued by Tesco (as I had no need for it) so I had to contact Tesco to ask for the card to be cancelled in order to complete the switch. This meant there was no debit card linked to the account. I think if you report the card lost or stolen Tesco will immediately issue a new card (meaning there will still be one linked to the account).

I decided not to try again after reporting the card lost, so missed out on this one sadly.
