I've just done a mammoth catch up.
Congratulations on the mortgage offer, that's all coming together nicely.
DD will get there with her understanding of finances. Don't be afraid to let her make mistakes as that's how people learn. Obviously if you see a big one coming you should guide and advise.
My BIL had never lived away from home (other than for work) when he met my sis. He moved into her flat, they got married, then they decided to buy a house. He wanted to buy one of the big, expensive houses up beside where an older friend of his lived. It took him a while to grasp that the bank wouldn't just lend him any amount. I was shocked at how little he knew. He was 28!Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000

Thanks GAP. I think what's scary - is that when I was 18 you were lucky to get a CC for £250 - now the amounts you can potentially borrow are bigger and therefore she could get in a mess much quicker.
LOL at your BIL not knowing how much he could borrow. My DD is like that - she thought she could borrow whatever she wanted...
About to take DS to the station. I've completed the getting dressed portion of the day. I've coloured a another postcard... Not yet put mortgage stuff in an envelope though. May take me a while to find one. Will send conveyance ID stuff while waiting for DS. Baby stepsAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

The best part of my day - coffee and cake in St*rbu*ks.
The worst part of my day - finding out on top of all the legal costs - I needed to pay £118 for 2 new tyres - and at the weekend I need to pay another £49 for tracking. My car failed its MOT on tyres - despite me having been to a different tyre garage last Friday. Really shocked!! They should have warned me not just replaced the obvious puncture. Apparently they also should have warned me that my brake discs and pads will need doing within a couple of months. I plan to complain with pictures!! Only 1 tyre was illegal, the other was close. Feeling doubly lucky that nothing bad happened before I got it fixed.
Takes my motor related mot and tyre bills to £289 - including the tracking bill needed at the weekend.

You lot talking about naivety of family, you've not met my 51 year old sibling who still thinks they can borrow £750k for a property and numerous other things!
Sorry to hear you needed tyres, don't blame you for wanting to complain.
It's the right thing getting an EF together when buying alone. If you can build up a couple of months of outgoings each year, it will soon mount up. When the mortgage is paid down or the monthly payment is negligible, it can be used for clearing it or something else.
Hope you're resting this evening, not long until it's all done.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.8 -

Thanks MF and HSL
HSL I feel for you. You've had a much harder road and I remain in awe of what you juggle. At least my kids are 18 and 23.
I keep plugging different figures into my spreadsheet to try and balance desire to just clear 0% debt against clear need to maintain EF to prevent new borrowing. Plus desire to get rid of new mortgage before age 73 and 7 months!! Debating merits of overpaying versus pension. The latter is more logical the first more certain. One day it will work out.
I followed Mark's example and renewed 365 via Am****. Got 15 months including free anti virus for £67.56. Saved £13.43 CF to simple renewal for 12 months.
I was very tempted to eat out but made myself come home and eat one of my earlier prepared meals instead. Taco seasoned mince, jacket spud, salsa, tomatoes and celery with cheese. Taking it for lunch to work tomorrow too.
I still need to check I have a working laptop for course.
I posted the mortgage deed earlier and DS caught his train ok.

Ahh how annoying about the tyres! Might be worth having a read through the motoring guide on the main site though - tyre tread is something that is dead easy to check for yourself as they all now have "wear bars" set into the tread recesses - those enable you to work out when tyres are getting close to needing sorting. The garage certainly shouldn't have simply repaired the puncture on a tyre that was either already illegal or close to being so though. I have to say I'd question whether it's fair to say they should have warned you about brakes though - there would be no real reason for them to be looking at those while doing a tyre so it would probably come down to the individual mechanic doing the work whether he even noticed. (Unless you paid for or were offered a full safety check of some sort, in which case they absolutely should have picked up on it!)
Well done for getting the mortgage deed back in the post so promptly, and hurrah for spreadsheets to play with! I quite miss our old mortgage spreadsheet!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

For today's Oct course I have had major technical issues. Wlork laptop won't work. Borrowed someone else's that wouldn't work. Tried a third laptop from DD webcam works but not microphone.
I thought we were supposed to pre do sample papers but apparently not. Part of course and homework. I am so bored but also whacked so it's probably as well I prepared in advance.
